Vacuworx to Demo Concrete Road Barrier Lifter at ICUEE

Safety and efficiency are among core attributes of the Tulsa-based company's launch of new material-handling equipment designed for construction contractors, municipalities, security contractors and the US military.

TULSA, Okla. — Vacuworx Global, a leading provider of vacuum-lifting equipment for pipeline handlers and contractors in the US and abroad, will demonstrate its new concrete road barrier lifter during the 2013 International Construction Utility Equipment Exposition in Louisville, Ky.

Vacuworx, which focuses its resources on the development and distribution of construction technologies to safely manipulate all diameters of pipe joints and other materials, manufactured its newest product specifically to maneuver concrete road barriers.

Powered by a Vacuworx RC series lifter with primary components consisting of a vacuum tank beam that doubles as a spreader bar, the concrete road barrier lifter is highly maneuverable for use in confined spaces.

Systems are designed with various lifting capacities to position and install numerous sizes of concrete road barriers. The RC exerts enough force to handle loads of up to 44,000 lbs or more, depending on vacuum-pad configuration, producing a formidable tool for applications related to highway or bridge construction, municipal infrastructures, security organizations, defense contractors or the military.

The concrete road barrier lifter can be operated in conjunction with excavators, backhoes, forklifts, cranes or knuckle booms, and Vacuworx points to its wireless controller operation as a feature that allows for fewer laborers on the ground.

The concrete road barrier lifter includes two specially designed and changeable vacuum pads that fit securely over the top of materials. Once lifted, given there is no interruption to the vacuum seal, energy from the RC's vacuum storage reservoir can hold materials for a sustained period, if necessary, under no power. Each RC lifter is manufactured to either meet or exceed the ASME/ANSI safety standard.

"The majority of occupational fatalities in road construction sites occur with construction laborers, highway maintenance workers, equipment operators and material moving occupations," said Vacuworx President Bill Solomon. "Securing a vacuum-based mechanism that allows for the remote-controlled manipulation of materials like steel plates and concrete road barriers can drive a reduction in worker exposure to hazardous road conditions while helping to lower insurance and payroll expenses."

A Vacuworx concrete road barrier lifter will be on display in Booth K185, Oct. 1-3, during the ICUEE show at the Kentucky Exposition Center. The company will also demonstrate the lifting capabilities of its flat plate vacuum pads and MC5 mini-lifter system.
