Vacuum-Rated Motors Ideal for Exotic Applications

ROHNERT PARK, CA -- Empire Magnetics introduces vacuum-rated, laboratory-grade servo and stepper motors. The new motors are designed to survive pressures as low as 10-7 Torr, and are temperature-rated at 130°C internal, and 105°C for the case. They meet the specialized vacuum process needs of the observatory industry, particularly in regard to telescope applications. They are also well suited to laboratory applications such as space based optical systems, semiconductor manufacturing chambers and electron beam equipment.

Laboratory-grade vacuum motors are available in 11 standard frame sizes, and are a successful solution to all common vacuum chamber/motor design problems, including outgassing, cooling, air leakage, and corona effects. A primary problem in operating a motor in a vacuum is the outgassing of contaminants: each Empire vacuum motor undergoes a proprietary extraction process to remove all lubricants, volatile polymers and other materials used in manufacturing.

Empire's vacuum-rated motors are being utilized in various applications to provide unique and unparalleled capabilities and levels of reliability, including the world's largest dual mirror telescope assembly that is currently being built at the University of Arizona.

Empire Magnetics is a leading supplier of specialty motor products, motion control systems and support services to a variety of North American and international manufacturers.
