PIAB Offers VGS 3010® as a Flexible Solution for Packaging Applications

Integrated Vacuum Gripper System (VGS®) Features DURAFLEX(TM) Suction Cups and Patented COAX® Ejector Technology

Hingham, MA, -PIAB, a global manufacturer of industrial vacuum products, offers its Vacuum Gripper System (VGS®) 3010, featuring DURAFLEX(TM) suction cups and patented COAX® ejector technology. Because of its flexible design the VGS 3010 allows for quick and easy changeover during packaging applications and eliminates the need to use multiple end effectors when handling material that changes size or position.

The VGS 3010 is modularly constructed and the suction cups, featuring molded fittings, are easily replaceable. Made from specially developed polyurethane named DURAFLEX, the suction cups adhere to many surfaces and can grip both porous, leaky materials, such as coarse, uneven or curved surfaces. The VGS 3010 is particularly effective for handling material during packaging applications, such as carton erecting, rotary cartoners, palletizing & depalletizing, pick and place and case formers.

The VGS 3010 also features PIAB's patented COAX technology, an ejector technology based on a multi-stage concept for creating vacuum with compressed air. COAX integrates the internal components of a multi-stage vacuum pump into a vacuum cartridge. The result is a smaller, more efficient, more reliable and highly flexible technology that allows users to design a modular system.

The VGS 3010's vacuum pump is integrated in a single unit, called a "Gripper." This avoids the pressure loss problems inherent to traditional vacuum systems that utilize a centrally located vacuum pump. The VGS 3010 can function at operating pressures below 45 psi, providing reliability even in the case of a breakdown in the air pressure network.

In case of rapid movement, transverse loads arise that can break loose suction cups. Traditional vacuum systems are often equipped with extra suction cups to compensate for this loss of vacuum, which increases system costs and energy expenditure. PIAB's new concept features an accessory called a "Stabilizer" that can be fitted around the suction cup for support during lifts. This prevents the suction cup from coming loose, thereby retaining lifting force.

The suction cups in the VGS are available in sizes from 1.5" to 4.5"diameters.
