Original Press Release:

First Disposable, HEPA-Filtered Collection Container for Pharmaceutical Vacuum Cleaners

The new Safe-Pak® collection unit enables workers to safely collect, handle, and dispose of potent compounds; it integrates with the company's CFM 3156 and 3306 vacuums.

Industrial vacuum cleaner manufacturer Nilfisk-Advance America has launched the first disposable, HEPA-filtered vacuum cleaner collection container designed for potent compound pharmaceutical applications.

The innovative Safe-Pak® enables manufacturers to safely collect, handle, and dispose of potent compounds. When integrated with Nilfisk-Advance America's CFM 3156 or 3306 vacuum cleaners, the Safe-Pak allows users to continuously collect materials, which are then retained within the HEPA-filtered unit. When the Safe-Pak unit is full, users simply dispose of the entire container, virtually eliminating the risk of contamination and exposure.

"Finding a way to safely collect and dispose of potent compounds has always been a major challenge for pharmaceutical manufacturers," said Paul Miller, vice president of Nilfisk-Advance America. "To develop a product that solves this challenge, Nilfisk-Advance America first collaborated with five of the largest pharmaceutical companies headquartered in the U.S. to learn their specific requirements. Then, we built the Safe-Pak based on their combined 'wish list.'"

About the CFM 3156 and 3306 Industrial Vacuum Cleaners
Nilfisk-Advance America's stainless steel CFM 3156 and 3306 vacuums are designed for continuous operation in fixed installations, including in compression and filling processing suites. The vacuums completely isolate the processing of products and provide constant suction at the source. They are ideal for use in pharmaceutical cleanrooms down to ISO 5 (Class 100).

Each vacuum features a multi-stage HEPA filtration system that is designed to trap and retain 99.999% of particles, down to and including 0.3 microns in size. Using a series of graduated filters, including an oversized polyester main filter, the system collects and retains dust, powders, debris, and other particulates. A HEPA upstream filter further reduces the threat of contamination by creating a redundant filtration barrier. This additional HEPA filter also protects the motor blower from contamination.
