AVIA 355-X Provides Low Cost of Ownership and High Throughput for Materials Processing, Microvia Drilling Applications
Santa Clara, Calif., February 25, 2003 - Coherent, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) (Nasdaq: COHR) introduces the latest addition to its successful AVIA product family, the AVIA 355-X. The AVIA 355-X is a Q-switched, diode-pumped, solid-state industrial UV laser that delivers 10W of 355-nm light at 60 kHz. It is ideal for microvia drilling and a variety of other high-speed materials processing applications.

The AVIA 355-X has twice the third harmonic crystal lifetime of previous generation 355-nm lasers-a result of Coherent's proprietary HGX(TM) harmonic generation technology. In addition, the efficiency of the AVIA 355-X allows it to achieve 10W of 355 nm output with only two diode modules. Other high-power UV lasers require as many as four pump modules. "With half as many diodes as previous generation lasers, your risk of diode failure is significantly reduced," added Somerville.
