Belden's New Generation UTP Composite Cables Offer Cost-Saving Alternative for PTZ Security Cameras

RICHMOND, IN - Belden CDT Electronics Division, a unit of Belden CDT Inc. and a world leader in the development of specialty cable products for a wide range of industries, introduces its New Generation Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) Composite cables for security installations. These Siamese and round composite cable constructions allow the installer to pull one cable - providing video, control and power functionality for PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) cameras -- plus they provide the installer and end-user with a cost-effective alternative to coaxial cables.

The new UTP composite cables are ideal for use in closed circuit TV (CCTV) installations in offices, universities and correctional facilities, as well as in public spaces such as hospitals, airports, sports stadiums, casinos and amusement parks. UTP cables have become increasingly popular in CCTV/security installations because they are smaller in size than coaxial cables, making cable density less of a problem. They are also easier to terminate, which speeds installation. However, UTP CCTV cables generally require baluns to convert their signal impedance from 100- to 75-ohms, so this additional installation factor should be considered.

Belden's new Siamese and round UTP composite cable constructions for PTZ cameras include:

-Product Nos. 5284US (Riser) and 6284US (Plenum) Siamese Composite cables feature two video/control UTP pairs with 24 AWG solid bare copper conductors that test to Category 5e. The power pair has 16 AWG stranded conductors.

-Product Nos. 5284UE (Riser) and 6284UE (Plenum) Round Composite cables feature two video/control UTP pairs with 23 AWG solid bare copper conductors that test to Category 5e. The power pair has 16 AWG stranded conductors.

-Product Nos. 5288US (Non-plenum) and 6288US (Plenum) Siamese Composite cables feature four video/control UTP pairs with 23 AWG solid bare copper conductors that test to Category 5e. The power pair has 16 AWG stranded conductors.

Belden also offers individual 4-pair UTP cables (tested to Category 5e or Category 6) in both plenum and non-plenum versions for fixed camera and PTZ camera applications.
