Mitsubishi 9800AD UPS Brings Performance, Reliability and Flexibility for Single-Module and Multi-Module Systems

VERNON HILLS, IL- June 2003-- Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc. introduces its 9800AD Series Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) System, a true, on-line double conversion 480-volt input, 480-volt output UPS offering superior performance, reliability and flexibility for equipment requiring high voltage power. A 600-volt input, 600-volt output configuration is also available.

The 9800AD Series UPS module is available in six capacity ratings - 100kVA, 150kVA, 225kVA, 300kVA, 375kVA and 500kVA. The 9800AD UPS module can be applied in Single Module System (SMS) configuration or up to eight (8) UPS modules of the same kVA capacity can be applied in parallel operation for Multi-Module System (MMS) configuration. The UPS MMS consists of the equally rated UPS modules and a Critical Load Cabinet (CLC). The CLC parallel connects the UPS output power circuits and has no control circuit functionality. That is to say, there is no single common system control circuitry (System Control cabinet) utilized with the Mitsubishi UPS MMS. Each UPS module incorporates independent bypass circuit and control, and independent parallel operation (load sharing and synchronization) control. This eliminates single points of failure associated with common control circuitry, and offers a UPS system with total redundancy, reliability and flexibility. There is ease of system expansion and reduction (existing UPS MMS modules can be removed from a system and utilized as a stand alone SMS UPS).

Each 9800AD UPS incorporates Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs) and improved PWM control techniques, which provide large power capabilities, high-speed switching, low control power consumption and superior performance specification.

Each UPS module specification includes low input current harmonic distortion (6 percent at 100 percent load; 9 percent at 50 percent load) and 100 percent step load capability without cycling of batteries for additional battery system life.

The 9800AD Series UPS also includes as standard, an advanced operator terminal touch screen with high communication capabilities (Ethernet 10Base-T offering Web monitoring functionality). For UPS MMS, the CLC incorporates a monitoring system that enables complete monitoring of system UPS modules (via Ethernet 10Base-T). The monitoring system consists of a full color, 12 inch operator terminal touch screen with MMS mimic flow diagram and color status display, system voltage/current/power measurement displays, individual UPS module data and battery data screens. Web monitoring functionality is also available.

All these high-tech features manage to fit into a very comfortable footprint. Estimated cabinet sizes for the 9800AD Series range from 43.3"w x 29.9"d x 79.7"h for the 100kVA 480-volt unit to 114.2"w x 37.8'dx 79.7"h for the 500kVAkVA unit. The external battery cabinet dimensions of 120"w x 32.4"d x 79.7"h are the same for all models.

Established in 1964, Mitsubishi Electric has been developing and manufacturing UPS systems and components for nearly 40 years. Mitsubishi was the world's first company to incorporate IGBT inverter technology into its UPS systems. Coupling this experience to the fact that Mitsubishi is also the world's top manufacturer of IGBT power devices it is easy to see that Mitsubishi not only understands and has a total in-depth knowledge of the IGBT power device, but also knows how best to apply and control the device within UPS equipment. This total integration enables Mitsubishi to continuously provide UPS products that will combine optimum performance, quality and reliability, to continually satisfy the ever expanding stringent market demands. This clearly explains why Mitsubishi Electric has dominated a large portion of the world UPS market.
