FM Approved K25 Upright Sprinkler Protects Cold Storage without In-Rack Sprinklers
Hastings, Michigan, USA – The Viking Corporation, a global leader in fire protection and life safety systems, announces the availability of its new Model VK598 Standard Response Upright Sprinkler. This new FM Approved storage sprinkler has a K-factor of 25.2 (363) and is approved for use in both dry and pre-action sprinkler systems. In these applications, the VK598 is approved to protect Class I-III commodities with storage heights of up to 40 ft (12,2 m) in warehouses as high as 45 ft (13,7 m), without the need for additional in-rack sprinkler protection.Â
By eliminating in-rack sprinklers, the new VK598 can significantly reduce overall system costs, increase racking flexibility, and lower the potential risk of damage to the system by warehouse operators. Furthermore, with its higher K-factor, the new K25 upright sprinkler provides for a lower overall starting pressure when compared to other protection options.Â
When used in dry or pre-action systems, the VK598 design criteria requires specific water delivery times, as indicated on the product’s technical data sheet. Viking’s Technical Services team will assist customers with performing the required fluid delivery calculations.
The VK598 is FM Approved for protection of open frame rack, solid piled, palletized, and bin box storage configurations, with a maximum sprinkler spacing of 10 x 10 ft (3 x 3 m). The new sprinkler, which is also approved for use in wet pipe systems and non-storage applications, is offered in several temperature ratings and has a 1 inch NPT (25 mm BSP) thread size.Â
