Original Press Release:

Fully Upgradeable 20 Inch x 40 Inch VMC

Chevalier's new upgradeable VMC series are designed for shops that demand a machine that could easily handle mixed volume, short run and high volume applications. These new generation 20" x 40" VMCs comes pre-wired for the 4th axis and is already fitted with hoses, fittings and coolant lines for coolant-thru-spindle and spindle oil cooler upgrades. The machine combines high performance and large machining capability within a compact 110" x 102" x 104" footprint. With its 47.24" x19.68" table and 40" x 20" x 20" work envelope, the 2040VMC series can handle workpieces up to 1320lbs, while generating 3950lbs maximum thrust force in the X axis. The cutting feedrate peaks at 394ipm. Two control types are offered: FANUC OiMB conversational control, 2.1GB HD, Advanced Integrated Contour Control (AICC) with Data server and 8.4" color LCD or ANILAM 6000 conversational control with 16MB RAM, 6GB HD and 12.1" TFT display. Standard features includes ethernet jack for networking, oil skimmer, 24 tools arm type ATC, 10,000rpm 20HP cartridge type spindle with coolant circulation, high speed rigid tapping, remote MPG (FANUC only) and easy pull-out chip drawers. A 5-nozzle ring type coolant system provides a curtain of coolant to prevent tool and workpiece overheating. Minimizing cycle time is a bidirectional, random access tool changer featuring a floating type tool discharge system which eliminates the stress generated by the tool release cylinders. Tool change time is 2.5 secs, tool to tool and 5.5 secs, chip to chip. A heavy duty wire-braided conduit protects the wiring and lube lines from flying chips. Slanted inside front walls and sloping way covers prevent chips from accumulating inside the machine. Construction features include all-Meehanite cast iron machine base with wide-stance configuration for full column and table support during high speed machining, separate casting for way oil and coolant, heavily ribbed frame for vibration dampening and Turcite-B coated, hardened and ground guideways and slideways. Pre-tensioned, class C3, 1.57" THK ballscrews with fine pitch are anchored at both ends. Servo motors are directly coupled to the high precision ballscrews providing excellent acceleration and deceleration and ultra-precise positioning and repeatability. Pre-loaded ball nuts eliminate backlash. A Z axis counterweight system has a heavy duty chain assembly which helps increase stability and reduce headstock vibration during high speed machining. A ZF 2-step gearbox is offered for heavy duty roughing or machining of castings, forgings and stainless steel. Productivity options include 12000rpm spindle (#40), CMC rotary table, cutting air blast, rear chip flushing device and lift-up chip conveyor. Net machine weight is 12,760lbs. Models are available in both linear and box way versions.
