IGEL Migration Kits - Revitalizing Thin Clients

IGEL Technology is Offering Two New Upgrade Kits to Meet Customer Demand For Possibilities to Migrate From Thin Clients of Other Manufacturers to IGEL Clever Clients

BREMEN, Germany and FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, January 10- Following the successful IGEL upgrades for the discontinued NetVista terminals from IBM, customers increasingly requested additional migration tools to allow conversion from thin client infrastructures of other manufacturers to IGEL Clever Clients. IGEL Technology now responds to this demand of the market by introducing two upgrade kits for a cost-effective conversion, which contributes significantly to protect investments.

Upgrade kits IGEL-TC3531 and IGEL-TC3533 are suitable for upgrading thin client models ITONA 3531 LI and ITONA 3533 LI made by VXL.

IGEL-TC3531 is an IGEL firmware image designed to upgrade to the existing 32 MB flash module and supporting communication protocols ICA from Citrix and RDP from Microsoft. With the PowerTerm terminal emulation a variety of legacy host applications can be used comfortably.

The IGEL-TC3533 software image is dimensioned slightly larger to accommodate the 64 MB flash memory installed in Itona TC 3533 LI. It also provides an ICA and RDP client as well as the PowerTerm emulation suite. In addition, it contains a Mozilla browser including Adobe Acrobat Reader and Macromedia Flash Player.

Of course, the powerful IGEL remote management suite is included with the latest upgrade kits at no extra charge. It allows central administration of the IGEL thin client infrastructure by means of modern encryption protocols. Therefore, updates and configuration of thin clients and many other functions are handled with maximum ease by remote access.

Simple migration without hardware modification

The migration process is controlled through an installation tool on the supplied CD and requires an external CD-ROM drive with USB connection. To initiate the booting process from the CD drive the BIOS of the clients has to be switched accordingly. After successful completion of the upgrade, booting may be started again from the flash memory.

Therefore, the complete client upgrade can be performed without hardware modification. The entire migration process is accomplished easily, quickly and effortlessly.

The new IGEL upgrade kits are available at a net price of only 59 Euro.

Dirk Dordelmann, IGEL Product Manager, comments on the new upgrade kits: "Low total costs of ownership of thin clients ultimately can be achieved only if further developments, service and support for the units are ensured over the long term. IGEL Technology as a service-oriented manufacturer guarantees these benefits and protects the investment by keeping up with technological advancement. The migration tools from IGEL provide a solid base for this."
