Thermo Fisher Scientific Announces APEX Upgrade Option for Legacy Metal Detectors
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., (May 30, 2007) - Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced a major upgrade to its Thermo Scientific metal detector family (formerly sold under the Goring Kerr brand name). The upgrade extends the operational life of the Thermo Scientific DSP2, DSP3 and Metal Eliminator products in the field while improving ease of use, reliability and performance. The new upgrade option, which brings innovation from the new Thermo Scientific APEX solutions, gives customers two choices to meet their metal detection needs: relatively new customers will benefit from the upgrade assuming the sensitivity ranges still meet their requirements, while customers with older models who already anticipate stricter sensitivity requirements in the future, may opt for the newest APEX solution.
"Thousands of customers around the world have enjoyed years of reliable service from their DSP2, DSP3 and Metal Eliminator products, but are now seeking an upgrade that will enable improved performance and extended life without a significant capital investment," said Bob Ries, product manager for Thermo Fisher Scientific. "The APEX product line represents the future of metal detection for Thermo Fisher Scientific and we're proud to offer some of the exciting benefits of the APEX innovations to our legacy customers through the upgrade program."
Used as an integral part of contaminant detection in the food production process, the Thermo Scientific APEX product line detects all types of metals, including the most common, stainless steel, in food products before they are shipped. The APEX upgrade enables customers to benefit from Thermo Fisher Scientific's recent advances in contaminant detection for food, pharmaceuticals and beverages to protect and extend their metal detection investments.
Key benefits of the Thermo Scientific APEX upgrade include:
Reduced cost of ownership: protects previous metal detection investments and enables customers to upgrade all production lines to a common platform.
Increased performance: detects 5-10% smaller metal and utilizes improved sensitivity to reduce rework and scrap from false rejects.
Simplified design: features an easy-to-install, service and clean electronics design and an innovative touch-panel keypad to improve long-term reliability.
Unparalleled service: includes on-site installation, removal of old electronics and training from a Thermo Fisher Scientific field service representative, in addition to
a six-month maintenance visit and one-year warranty upgrade.
Backed by the extensive worldwide Thermo Fisher Scientific service network, the APEX metal detector family allows customers to fulfill their regulatory obligations for food safety and protect their brand value by preventing metal-contaminated products from reaching the customer.
