UNLV Thomas & Mack Center Upgrades to HD with ABS

SEATAC, WA — Professional video and audio systems integration firm Advanced Broadcast Solutions (ABS) today announced the Thomas & Mack Center at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) has upgraded its control room to full HD production with equipment purchased through ABS. Primarily, the new system is used for in-house video scoreboard presentations, though some projects are produced for live and on-demand streaming.

Brian Williams, video facilities manager, said the center installed  an HD-compatible video scoreboard about five years ago, but a full HD upgrade was out of reach at that time. The recent HD upgrade included a Ross Carbonite 2M switcher, Fujinon XA50x9.5BESM HD telephoto box style lens, and Utah Scientific UTAH-100/UDS router from ABS.

Home of the UNLV Runnin' Rebels men's basketball and Lady Rebels women's basketball teams, the Thomas & Mack Center hosts a variety of events throughout the year. The new equipment was used for the first time when the center hosted the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Sacramento Kings NBA basketball game on Oct. 19. The system was also in place for last year’s National Finals Rodeo and some UNLV graduation ceremonies in December, and is currently being used for all home basketball games.

UNLV purchased equipment from ABS and other sources, but installation and integration, as well as the center's control room remodel, was handled in house. Williams said ABS was very customer service driven and offered competitive pricing. "Their knowledge of the equipment was what sealed the deal for us to do business with ABS," he added.
