University of Colorado at Boulder Uses VASCO's Strong Authentication to Prevent Malicious Attacks

With the Combination of VASCO's DIGIPASS GO 6 and IDENTIKEY Server the University of Colorado at Boulder Secures Access to its Critical Research and its Network

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Illinois and ZURICH, Switzerland - May 17, 2011 - VASCO Data Security International, Inc. (Nasdaq: VDSI; www.vasco.com), a leading software security company specializing in strong authentication products, today announced that the University of Colorado at Boulder is using DIGIPASS GO 6 and IDENTIKEY Server to provide secure access to its supercomputer and its network.

Recently, the University installed a new, powerful and profile supercomputer that contains critical research - making it a prime target for malicious attacks. The University realized that access control for its supercomputer which is accessed by both the University and other organizations including the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), was a necessity. In addition, the University had business needs that demanded a solution that would service multiple strong authentication needs - specifically one-time password support for their campus Juniper SSL.

After an evaluation, the University determined they needed a security solution that would authenticate using their new DIGIPASS tokens. In addition the security solution needed to offer an authentication back-end to other existing trusted authentication systems in use by these partner organizations. To meet their authentication and back-end system requirements they selected a combination of VASCO's IDENTIKEY server and DIGIPASS GO 6.

"We needed a strong authentication solution that would provide secure access to researchers retrieving critical research computing resources and to the network. Secure access was also required for the support system administration staff when remotely managing campus resources classified as life/security or essential and systems maintaining sensitive information," said [insert name, title from the University of Colorado at Boulder]. "We selected VASCO because of their commitment to securing educational institutions. Furthermore, they offered a complete, customizable and versatile authentication product with a wide array of options including solutions for the visibly impaired. Since installing VASCO I can rest assured knowing that our vital systems are secure."

Since the installation, the University has utilized VASCO's strong authentication for the LINUX/UNIX based computing systems as well as their campus Juniper SSL VPN BR1. It currently supports a combination of 750 on-premise and 250 remote users including BlackBerry, iPhone, Windows Mobile wireless users.

"We understand that securing access to vital research at universities is critical and we are committed to meeting their strong authentication needs," said Jan Valcke, president and COO at VASCO Data Security. "The University of Colorado at Boulder's selection of VASCO to protect their supercomputer is a testimonial to our experience."
