Universal Instruments to Showcase AdVantis Platform at ATExpo 2006

Universal Instruments has unveiled plans to showcase its popular AdVantis placement platform from booth #5842 at this year's Assembly Technology Expo, taking place over September 26th - 28th in Chicago, US.

The Universal display will highlight AdVantis' ability to blend high-end machine productivity and operator flexibility for a value-driven performance. Equipped to respond to a variety of manufacturing environments, the platform can be configured to expertly address a range of assembly tasks. As such, AdVantis is a prime example of Universal's commitment to developing fully integrated line solutions, with its booth hosting both the AdVantis Lightning AC-30L and the AdVantis Multifunction AX-72. In addition, the Polaris Assembly Cell will be on display under the new Unovis name from booth #1023.

AdVantis AC-30L is a high speed modular platform harnessing the power of the Universal Lightning head with dual on-the-head optics. Lightning itself features a radial array of 30 modular, individually controlled spindles, a configuration that delivers productivity-enhancing features by driving placement rates up to 30,000cph on AdVantis. By linking AdVantis with Lightning, AC-30L is equipped to deliver high utilisation for both top and bottom side applications along with the high speed placement of large parts. Addressing an unsurpassed range of components from 0201 to 30mm x 30mm, AdVantis AC-30L places a range of devices at full speed including CSP, WSP, uBGA and Melfs.

Highlighting the trademark flexibility of the AdVantis platform, the Multi-Function AX-72 is a modular placement machine with combination head capability. The AdVantis AX-72 can be configured to deploy up to two heads on a single beam, making it one of the most flexible models in the AdVantis collection. Component range extends from 0201s to 55mm x 55mm devices (in a single field of view) at placement rates of up to 16,500cph. In addition to a selection of camera systems and feeder types, the AdVantis AX-72 can also deliver material dispensing capabilities.

As an assembly show, ATExpo will also feature the Polaris Assembly Cell, designed to solve the challenges of odd-form assembly in electronics manufacturing by addressing a range of mechanical assembly processes for use in diverse applications. However, with the recent merger between three Universal divisions - the Advanced Semiconductor Division, the Odd Form Assembly Division and the SMT Laboratory - and Hover-Davis' Direct Products Division, Polaris will be showcased under the newly established Unovis ,which can be found in booth #1023.

Unovis will focus on growth in the process and assembly solutions business, driven by an unrivalled applications, integration and process knowledge-base for customers in markets such as component assembly. By tailoring comprehensive solutions to enhance standard surface mount equipment, Unovis is well equipped to meet customer-specific assembly challenges. This restructuring will also allow Universal to focus on its core surface mount and insertion mount businesses, putting more of its resources and infrastructure into the development of key, leading-edge product lines such as AdVantis.
