Universal Flow Monitors' ISA Expo Exhibit to Feature Flowmeters for Automation and Robotics

Universal Flow Monitors, Inc. will feature its flowmeters for automation and robotics at ISA Expo 2008, October 14-16, at the Reliant Center in Houston, Texas.

The Universal Flow Monitors exhibit in Booth 2406 will showcase flowmeters for cooling water, shielding gasses, lubrication oil, compressed air and paint. These products are designed for fast response, durability and low maintenance in high-volume production applications.

Products on display will include an expanded line of CoolPoint(TM) vortex shedding flowmeters for greater capabilities in measuring and monitoring cooling water, water/glycol coolant and low-viscosity fluids in most process industries.

Four new, larger sizes of the stainless steel version of CoolPoint(TM) flowmeters are now offered for processing higher flows of corrosive fluids and water with chemicals added. CoolPoint(TM) 316 SS units for corrosion resistance are now available in ¾ inch, 1 inch, 1 ½ inch and 2 inch pipe sizes in addition to the ¼ inch and ½ sizes previously offered. Maximum 4-20 mA transmitter flow rates for the new stainless steel sizes range from 25 gallons per minute (95 liters per minute) to 200 GPM (750 LPM).

Flow totalization capability has been added to the CoolPoint(TM) line to measure, monitor and control the total amount of water, coolant or low-viscosity fluid used in a process. The optional flow totalizer features a pulse output, reset button and six-digit LED in either liters or gallons.

Flow turndown of 20:1 is now offered as an option on ¼ inch through 2 inch pipe sizes, up from 10:1 turndown as standard. The increased turndown ratio improves user capability to detect, read and record low flows, an advantage in many batching operations and in standardizing on a single flowmeter model for multiple applications.
Universal Flow Monitors also will display its new series of plastic-construction flowmeters for cost-effectiveness in transmitting corrosive fluids.

The new P420 Series of vortex-shedding flowmeters meets requirements of the chemical, water treatment and water desalination industries for an inexpensive flow rate transmitter without moving parts that can stick, bind or coat when processing corrosive fluids. Applications include corrosives, water, brine and low-viscosity fluids.

The flow transmitters are electronic instruments with wetted parts entirely of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The non-mechanical meters are designed to transmit low-viscosity fluids that are compatible with PVC, including water that may contain particles.

P420 Series flow transmitters from Universal Flow Monitors are electronic instruments that are offered at paddlewheel-meter pricing without the need to replace paddlewheels. The non-mechanical meters start at $325 (U.S.) list price.

The P420 flowmeters are available in five pipe sizes with maximum flow rates as follows: ½ inch ( 12 GPM, 45 LPM), ¾ inch (25 GPM, 95 LPM), 1 inch (50 GPM, 190 LPM), 1-½ inches (100 GPM, 380 LPM) and 2 inches (200 GPM, 750 LPM).

P420 vortex-shedding flow transmitters have no o-ring seals. Connection is made by either solvent welding PVC pipe into the socket port provided or threaded connection.
Electronic output is from a 4-20 mA two-wire transmitter rated Intrinsically Safe when used with barriers. The electronics package is totally potted and not vulnerable to shorting, corrosion, leaks, humidity or condensate from conduits or thermal cycling.
