Universal Contacts provide SMT solution.

Press Release Summary:

Universal Contacts provide electrical connection between devices and PCBs. Single piece stamped units incorporate pre-load and anti-load features and can be used to connect device components in any direction or configuration. Contacts have 1.3 mm profile and are available in heights of 1.3, 1.8, 2.5, 3.5 and 4 mm at minimum pitches of 1.35, 1.25, 1.35, 1.45, and 1.45 mm, respectively. Side wings protect active parts of contact, preventing it from overstressing.

Independent Universal SMT Contact from ITT Electronic Components Replaces Traditional Interfaces

SANTA ANA, Calif. - May 21, 2007 - The new series of Universal Contacts, recently released by ITT Electronic Components, is an independent range of SMT contacts, providing an electrical connection between a device and a PCB. Manufactured as a single piece stamped product, incorporating pre-load and anti-lift features, new Universal Contacts have been designed to replace traditional interfaces where the contact is custom designed into the component. The contacts can be used to connect a number of device components in any direction and configuration using the same interface, significantly reducing qualification time. The 1.3 mm version features the lowest profile currently available on the market - and an even lower profile option, just 0.9 mm in height, is in development.

The range of Universal Contacts is available in heights of 1.3 mm (minimum pitch 1.35 mm), 1.8 mm (minimum pitch 1.25 mm), 2.5 mm (minimum pitch 1.35 mm), 3.5 mm and 4 mm (both feature minimum pitch of 1.45 mm). 'Side wings' protect the active parts of the contact, preventing contact from overstressing and potential damage. Domed contact points allow good hertz stress and low contact resistance. 'Solderwell' prevents solder wicking up the contact. The X-Y-Z movement allows robust connection between the contact and component assembly during shock and vibration.

Universal SMT Contact from ITT

Universal Contacts provide a standard interface across applications and platforms and are ideal for use in numerous applications such as handsets (e.g. I/O connector, battery contact, SIM contact), laptops and computers (e.g. memory stick), home electronic devices and white goods (e.g. smoke detectors, alarm systems, home appliances), automotive (key fob), medical (CT scan equipment) and industrial (circuit breaker for GPS beacon). Universal Contacts are fully WEEE and RoHS compliant.
