Unifrax Corporation Expands Excelfrax® Microporous Insulation Product Line by Introducing Excelfrax 1900 Panel

August, 2006 - Niagara Falls, New York - Unifrax Corporation, a global leader in the development and manufacture of high temperature ceramic fiber and soluble fiber products, introduces Excelfrax® 1900 Panel to its existing family of Excelfrax Products. The Excelfrax® family of products is based on the microporous insulation principle, exhibiting extremely efficient insulating characteristics in the North American market. Excelfrax 1900 Panel provides customers with higher temperature performance (1900°F) and a product form with superior strength and handleability.

Excelfrax® 1900 Panel is composed of inorganic oxides, primarily fumed silica. Silicates and opacifiers are added to improve the material performance. Microporous insulation products actually have thermal conductivity values lower than still air. This is due to the ability of microporous insulation to block the three modes of heat transfer (conduction, convection, and radiation). Excelfrax® 1900 Panel offers a number of advantages including extremely low thermal conductivity, thermal stability up to 1900°F, consistent operating temperatures, and easy fabrication. The extremely low thermal conductivity of Excelfrax® 1900 Panel allows users to save space, reduce weight and increase operational efficiency.

Excelfrax® products are also available in several other product forms to solve a range of thermal insulation problems. These product forms include: Excelfrax® 1800 Board for high temperature furnaces, Excelfrax® 1800 Flexliner for backup insulation in molten metal ladles; and Excelfrax® 200 VIP (Vacuum Insulation Panel) for lower temperature insulation in appliances, packaging and other cold storage applications.
