Original Press Release:

D-Link Expands Its Unified Wireless Portfolio with New Wireless Controller Supporting up to 256 Access Points

New DWC-2000 Unified Wireless Controller Provides Security, Reliability and Scalability Needed for Enterprise-scale Wireless Networks

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., – D-Link today announced the Unified Wireless Controller (DWC-2000), a new centralized Wireless LAN manager designed specifically for education, hospitality and medium-to-large enterprises. The DWC-2000 can support up to 256 access points per controller, and up to 1,024 access points in a controller peer group, making it a cost-effective mobility solution suitable for medium and large scale deployments.

The DWC-2000 offers self-organizing, self-optimizing and self-healing network capabilities to increase the stability of the entire wireless network. Capable of regular radio scanning, the DWC-2000 automatically tunes radio channels and power to avoid interference and keep the wireless network optimized. To make up for a sudden RF signal vacuum created by a "dead" access point, the DWC-2000 increases the transmission output power of neighboring access points to expand RF coverage for a reliable, high performance network.

"Unlike competing solutions that require the purchase of additional licenses to manage even one access point, the DWC-2000 supports 64 access points right out of the box," said Steven Olen, director of product marketing, D-Link Systems, Inc. "For larger installations greater than 64 APs, we do offer licenses that increase support for up to 256 APs per controller."

About the DWC-2000

The DWC-2000 offers features such as auto-managed AP discovery and single-point management, which allow users to achieve enterprise-class networking without the burden of executing massive and complex configurations. A guest account generation function manages guest user bandwidth and accessibility to network resources.

Additional benefits include:

--  Comprehensive Wireless Security: The Wireless Intrusion Detection System (WIDS) detects rogue access points, rogue clients and anticipates wireless threats to help prevent potential breaches and illegal access before any damage is done to the network.

--  Captive Portal:  The Captive Portal feature allows the network administrator to block clients from accessing the network until their identities are verified. The Captive Portal authentication servers cover local, RADIUS, LDAP, POP3, and Windows Active Directory. This double-layer authentication and authorization establish a robust security fence to help avoid attacks from internal networks.
