Ultrasonic Sensor Features Extraordinary 8 M Sensing Distance

Minneapolis, MN-March 28, 2003-Banner Engineering Corp. has announced new QT50U series programmable ultrasonic sensors that feature an extended sensing range of up to 8 m (26'). This addition to the successful U-GAGE® family of ultrasonic products from Banner is available in both analog and discrete models, has a minimum sensing range of 200 mm (8") and incorporates an advanced microprocessor design for reliable sensing at long distances within a variety of applications.

The advanced microprocessor design of the QT50U also simplifies setup and programming while offering added application flexibility. TEACH programming via two push buttons on the sensor or a remote TEACH wire is straightforward and intuitive. The remote wire is also used to disable the push buttons to prevent unwanted tampering. An 8-pin DIP switch located on the back of the unit offers added configuration flexibility and enables the sensor's temperature compensation feature, providing constant monitoring and automatic adjustment for the highest accuracy across a wide variety of temperature variations.

"The industry looks for two major capabilities in a long-range ultrasonic: consistency and versatility. Consistent performance within a group of sensors is critical to many applications" said Mike Dean, Product Director for Banner's Measurement and Inspection Products Division. "Piezoelectric elements within ultrasonic sensors have inherent variation from transducer to transducer - making the compensation abilities of the sensor's electronics that much more important. The electronics of the QT50U take these variations into account and continually correct for consistent performance" Dean added.

"Versatility is also important. The QT50U is the most versatile long-range ultrasonic sensor on the market offering many mounting options, output types and advanced sensor control logic" Dean also stated.

LED indicators on the sensor provide constant operating status information and the 10 to 30V dc QT50U has a maximum output rating of 60 milliamps and is protected against reverse polarity and transient overvoltages. Available with a 2 m (6.5') or 9 m (30') shielded 5-conductor PVC jacketed cable or 5-pin Euro-style quick-disconnect or 5-pin Mini-style quick-disconnect. Pricing begins at $489.00.
