Original Press Release:

Ultrasonic Loop Controller for Multiple Strand Extruders

A non-contact loop controller that assures smooth operation and prevents the dragging of extruded materials between processes is available from Waddington Electronics, Inc. of Cranston, Rhode Island.

The SONA-TROL® ST-6 Ultrasonic Loop Controller can perform loop measurements at up to 100 times per second for controlling tension and can provide slack material to the next part of a process without ever touching it. Ideal for multiple strand applications, it features a sensor head that can be mounted from 18" to 20 ft. above the loop and measure changes in stock distance as small as .010" to assure smooth operation and prevent dragging.

Compatible with a wide range of extruders, the SONA-TROL® ST-6 Ultrasonic Loop Controller includes built-in provisions for external measurement control by a PLC or computer. Capable of changing spool take-up speeds if seven measurements are outside of preset limits, or tripping an alarm, other features include adjustable zero offset, receiver sensitivity, and gain.

The SONA-TROL® ST-6 Ultrasonic Loop Controller is priced from $799.00 (list) which includes a sensor head and oil-tight JIC enclosure. Literature is available upon request.
