Original Press Release:

New 2-Wire SmartSonic(TM) Narrow-Beam Ultrasonic Level Transmitters are Latest Additions to Line of High Quality, High Reliability Level Controls that Offer Many User Advantages... Unique 10 Year Warranty... at One-Half the Cost of Similar Units

Compact 2-wire loop-powered transmitters offer built-in temperature compensation and indication; open channel flow characterization; 32-point linearization; simple, intuitive setup; and innovative signal processing software for high accuracy.

SOUTHAMPTON, PA -- Princo Instruments, Inc., a well-respected, long-time manufacturer and supplier of level controls, has extended its line of narrow-beam ultrasonic transmitters with the introduction of the 2-wire SmartSonic L4660-SE/SG-300 loop powered transmitters. The units are designed to be intrinsically safe when properly installed; FM (Factory Mutual) approval should be available in the near future.

With its novel Narrow Beam Technology the new transmitter is accurate in even narrow vessels and flumes, problem-some applications for many ultrasonic level controls. Princo's SmartSonic Narrow Beam Technology also ignores baffles, uneven sidewalls , and other obstructions that interfere with other ultrasonic devices. Since the narrow beam signals have outstanding focus, they penetrate gasses, vapors, heavy fuming, and foams that fool other units. These transmitters are the sole ultrasonic transmitter line available with a 10-year warranty. Basic units are priced at about $795, one-half the cost of similar units with far fewer features.

The new transmitter line is ideal for chemical applications - especially corrosives that may attack other types of systems... food processing and pharmaceutical applications since there is no contact with the process medium ...pulp and paper, water and wastewater, power plants, breweries, and other food and beverage production facilities.

SmartSonic transmitters provide a unique combination of advantages in addition to their narrow beam angle (±2.5° from center axis) and 2-wire loop powered operation, including built-in open channel flow characterization, 32 point linearization, full temperature compensation, simple pushbutton programming, and high accuracy and reliability independent of the materials being measured or the design of the vessel, weir, or flume. The transmitter has built-in algorithms for most popular weirs and flumes as well as 10 pre-programmed tank shapes.

The 32-point linearization capability permits simple custom programming for those applications not pre-programmed into the unit.

The 2-wire SmartSonic transmitter offers two type of operating modes:
Basic - simple setup with 4-20 mA configuration without the Display Module option.
Sophisticated - using an optional plug-in programming module the operator can select menu-driven QUICKSET full parameter configuration or simple calibration. The programming module includes a built-in custom 6-digit LCD display for field indication.

Other advantages include:
Innovative Advanced Signal Processing Software identifies and validates the surface signal and provides agitator/stirrer filtering and dead band control for accurate measurement
Built-in Temperature Sensor for full-range temperature compensation as well as process temperature indication
Self Diagnostic System for high reliability and maintenance ease
Fast, Easy Wiring - Well-marked wiring block can be removed, wired, and re-installed in just about a minute or less.
