ULIS' PICO640(TM) 17-Micron Longwave Infrared Detector Selected by Thermoteknix Systems for Portable Thermal Imaging Equipment

ULIS' PICO640(TM) chosen for its advantages of size, weight, low power, reliability and cost

ULIS will showcase PICO640(TM) 17-micron LWIR at SPIE Defense, Security & Sensing Exhibition 2010, April 6 - 8, at booth #634

Veurey-Voroize, France, April 6, 2010 - ULIS, a leading infrared vision specialist making cost-effective uncooled thermal sensors for civilian and military applications, announced today that Thermoteknix Systems Ltd, has selected its PICO640(TM) 17-micron longwave Infrared (LWIR) detector for performance driven thermal imaging equipment where size, weight, power consumption and range are critical.

Thermoteknix, specialists in high performance, low power infrared engines for small and large volume integrators, joins the more than 20 customers, worldwide, who have already selected this product.

ULIS' PICO640 17-micron LWIR, (product announced December 10, 2009) is a 640 x 480 video quality (VGA) focal plane array (FPA) that operates in the 8 - 12 micron IR waveband. It has one of the smallest footprints in its product category, 24 x 24 mm², and offers low power consumption, less than 0.160 W. It weighs less than 10g and also has less than 10 milliseconds of thermal time constant (response rate) - all features that are well suited for 50 Hz portable thermal imaging applications, such as battery powered cameras.

"ULIS' PICO640 pushes the technology envelope further to provide a higher performing detector, requiring smaller and lower cost optics to achieve the same result of larger assemblies in a smaller, lower cost envelope," says Dr. Richard Salisbury, managing director of Thermoteknix Systems. "PICO640 fits with Thermoteknix's proprietary technology that enables infrared cameras to be manufactured without TE Cooling to stabilize detector performance, along with its XTi shutterless technology that removes the need for physical shuttering of the detector and interruption of imaging."

"ULIS is pleased to supply Thermoteknix Systems Ltd, with well-designed, cost-effective IR detectors that bring them competitive advantages in size, weight, performance and cost," said Jean-François Delepau, managing director of ULIS. "PICO640 is one of a family of high-performance 17-micron thermal sensors based on a reliable technology that enables us to produce IR detectors in large volumes. PICO640 is being well received by the market and we still see significant potential in our amorphous silicon technology for the future.
