UHF RFID IC Evaluation Board fosters battery-free development.

Press Release Summary:

Spider evaluation board is available for ANDY100 UHF RFID IC, which harvests RF energy from commercial UHF RFID readers and communicates with them using EPC C1G2 standard commands. ANDY 100 IC, included with evaluation board, also includes SPI master to drive sensors while keeping tag plus sensor device battery-free. Additionally included start-up circuit lets developers work directly with SPI sensors or connect MCU of choice for further processing.

Farsens Unveils the SPIDER, an Evaluation Board for the ANDY100 RFID IC for Battery-Free Wireless Sensors and Actuators

The Spider evaluation board is thought to test the ANDY100 energy harvesting chip with RFID EPC C1G2 wireless communication and SPI master

The Spider from Farsens S.L., San Sebastián, Spain is an evaluation board for the ANDY100 UHF RFID IC. The chip harvests radio frequency energy from commercial UHF RFID readers and communicates with them using EPC C1G2 standard commands. On top of this, it includes an SPI master to drive sensors while keeping the tag plus sensor device battery-free.

The Spider includes the ANDY100 chip and a start-up circuit to allow developers to work directly with SPI sensors or connect a microcontroller of their choice for further processing.

Spider is thought for testing of the ANDY100 IC but can also be used to test multiple sensor, actuator or other devices. By balancing power consumption against read range, developers can easily test/prototype different ideas and create proof of concepts that can later on be implemented into final products.

Farsens designs and manufactures full passive RFID sensor solutions. Their proprietary UHF RFID IC allows Farsens to develop long range solutions for asset tracking – via the unique ID – and monitoring – via the attached sensor – without the need of any battery on the tag.
