UGS PLM Software Uses its D-Cubed PGM and 3D DCM Components to Drive Design Productivity in UGS NX 5

D-Cubed PGM Enhances Productivity of UGS NX 5 Sketching; D-Cubed 3D DCM Enhances Productivity of UGS NX 5 Routing

PLANO, Texas, May 30, 2007 - UGS PLM Software, a division of Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced that its D-Cubed Profile Geometry Manager (PGM) and 3D Dimensional Constraint Manager (3D DCM) components make important new contributions to design productivity in Version 5 of UGS NX® software.

NX 5 is the first release to integrate PGM in its sketcher. The PGM builds upon sketching systems based on the D-Cubed 2D Dimensional Constraint Manager (2D DCM), boosting productivity by managing higher level operations that maintain the consistency of a sketch. In NX 5, the PGM automatically inserts, removes, trims and extends edges to maintain a valid offset profile as modifications are made to a sketch (example animations can be viewed http://ugs.com/products/open/d-cubed/animations/pgm/).

NX 5 contains the first implementation of the 3D DCM in NX Routing, the NX design environment for electrical and mechanical subsystems. Using new 3D DCM-based capabilities, designers can more productively control the positioning of routing segments using a wide range of dimensions and constraints. In addition, NX 5 has significant improvements to assembly constraints, also enabled by the 3D DCM, providing a more efficient and intuitive environment for building assemblies.

UGS PLM Software's 3D DCM component is used in the majority of today's major CAD applications, including UGS PLM Software's own NX and UGS Solid Edge® products. Its strengths include genuine 3D variational (non-sequential) solving of a wide range of dimensions and constraints applied to the full range of geometry types found in a modern CAD model. The strong performance of the 3D DCM's constraint solving algorithms is the foundation of the latest interactive approaches to assembly part positioning, 3D sketching, direct (non-history based) part modification and kinematic motion simulation.

"Built upon our open technology foundation, NX 5 delivers greater power so users can achieve increased productivity in all product development disciplines," said Chuck Grindstaff, executive vice president, Products, UGS PLM Software. "Our utilization of UGS' PLM Components, such as UGS Parasolid®, 2D DCM, 3D DCM and PGM, enables major functional enhancements that help increase workflow productivity for NX users."

UGS PLM Software's level playing field licensing policy for PLM Components promotes interoperability and quality for end-users, and reduces development costs and time-to-market for software vendors.
