U.S. Army Recognizes Protective Packaging Corporation for 'Outstanding Value Engineering' Acheivement

Firm's customized Barrier Bag ensures launcher's safety; saves U.S. Army $14.8 million

Carrollton, TX - (September 15, 2008) - Protective Packaging Corporation, a veteran-owned small business specializing in flexible barrier packaging for military and industrial uses, has received recognition from the U.S. Army for its value engineering achievement while working with the Joint Attack Munition Systems (JAMS) Project Office to provide a protective barrier for the M299 Launcher.

Protective Packaging Corporation's application of value engineering resulted in a cost avoidance of $14.8 million for the U.S. Army. Value engineering is a systematic process involving a thorough analysis of function to identify actions that will reduce cost, increase quality and improve mission capabilities.

For the M299 Launcher, Protective Packaging Corporation worked closely with the JAMS Project Office to determine the exact objectives of the specialized packaging system, completing a comprehensive analysis of the capabilities it would need to ensure proper protection for a determined amount of time. After establishing these objectives, Protective Packaging Corporation selected and provided both samples and packaging demonstrations of the Barrier Bag.

"After evaluating the M299 Launcher, we identified specific challenges the Launcher would face and created a customized solution," said Steve Hanna, president of Protective Packaging Corporation. "We also designed the Barrier Bag to withstand the duration of the Launcher's storage, in turn reducing packaging costs and eliminating the need to re-package in the future."

The Barrier Bag will provide long term protection from corrosion, dirt, UV, static electricity, and any other hazards or weather conditions that could compromise the launcher's functionality. The packaging system is designed to protect the weapon during storage for five or more years regardless of its environment.

"Protective Packaging Corporation's devotion to ensuring the design and material were appropriate for implementation is indicative of the high caliber and standards of the company and its team of engineers," said Michael E. Cantor, Colonel, aviation project manager, Joint Attack Munition Systems, in his letter of recognition.

In addition to providing the customized Barrier Bag, Protective Packaging Corporation compiled a detailed written manual for the JAMS Project Office, guaranteeing proper application of the packaging to the Launcher.

"It was a privilege for the Protective Packaging Corporation team to partner with the military on this project and we are honored to receive this recognition," said Hanna. "Using state-of-the-art equipment, our team of packaging engineers strives to provide all clients with unmatched service and expertise to assure that we exceed every customer's expectations."

In addition to the JAMS Project Office, Protective Packaging Corporation provides packaging systems for other defense-related companies, such as Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, L3 Communications, Boeing and Bell Helicopter as well as all branches of the U.S. Military. Some primary products include MRE (meals-ready-to-eat) pouches for soldiers and anti-static bags for circuit boards.

Besides military-related customers, Protective Packaging Corporation also provides specialized packaging services for the electronics, communication, oil field and transportation industries. For more information, visit www.protectivepackaging.net.
