FOCUS Enhancements Targets Handheld and Mobile Applications with Small FS455 / FS456 High Definition TV Processing Chips

- Low Cost and High Quality TV Encoder Available in 7mm X 7mm BGA Package -

CAMPBELL, CA., June 15, 2004 - FOCUS Enhancements, Inc., (NASDAQ SC: FCSE), a worldwide leader in video production and conversion technology, announced today it has released a new video interface processor in a Ball Grid Array (BGA) package and begun sampling to manufactures, primarily targeting system designers who need compact components for mobile and handheld applications. The 7mm x 7mm BGA-packaged FS455 / FS456 chips are one quarter the size of conventional Thin Quad Flat Pack (TQFP) chip packages. These video chips deliver the same superior studio grade quality images already proven in gaming devices, set-top boxes and media adapters to even smaller media-oriented devices such as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and high-end cell phones.

"The concept of affordable handheld devices carrying entertainment quality video was just a dream three years ago," said Mike Kelly, marketing vice president for FOCUS Enhancements' semiconductor group. "Now, especially in Asia, PDA's are routinely used to view video clips and recorded TV programming during tedious urban commutes to and from work. Also, about 25 percent of all cell phones sold worldwide today come with a digital camera built-in. These types of products beg for the ability to project content onto a TV - to share those snap shots with the family or put that TV show trapped in the PDA back on the TV where it belongs. We are providing that option to reference design developers."

"With the FS455 / FS456, we are responding to customer requests for smaller components for exciting new applications in portable devices," said Tom Hamilton, executive vice president and general manager of FOCUS Enhancements' semiconductor group. "These chips will provide revenue growth and maintain a competitive edge in our base convergence market while we continue to invest in and aggressively develop our Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology, which targets wireless video."

FS455 / FS456 Features:

o The FS455 / FS456 integrated circuits (ICs) are compatible with virtually all embedded processors with digital LCD-panel interfaces.

o The FS455 / FS456 ICs deliver multiple display modes, including VGA output for PC monitors, NTSC or PAL for multiple SDTV's and 480p, 720p, or 1080i for HDTV.

o The FS456 provides the globally implemented Macrovision 7.1 anti-copy protection technology for all SDTV outputs, and also includes protection for 480p component output.

o Based on 0.18-micron technology and fully software and schematic compatible with the popular FS453 / FS454, the FS455 / FS456 are smaller devices well suited for portable and handheld consumer electronics.

Other best-of-class features include advanced 2-D adaptive and adjustable flicker filter with sharpness enhancement, resolution support from 430x350 to 1280x1024 (SXGA), and programmable 2-D scaling, all contributing to the stunning visual quality for games and text rendering. These chips also offer the highest quality text presentation available, regardless of the language used. The flexibility of the FS455 / FS456 allows a glueless digital interface to most graphic display chips, and a variety of advanced power control modes for low power applications. It requires only minimal external components: a single 27 MHz clock and passive parts. The FS455 / FS456 can derive power from +1.8V digital and +3.3V analog supplies. The package is an 88-ball, 7mm square BGA. Additional product information is available at www.FOCUSinfo.com.
