Tornos Sigma 20 Pursuit Meets the Demands of the General Engineering Industry

Lombard, Illinois, April 7, 2008 - Tornos has introduced the Sigma 20 Pursuit, a sliding headstock turning center specifically designed to meet the demands of the North American general engineering industry. This high-speed, precise and efficient turning center was designed to help manufacturers compete in the global market.

The affordable Sigma 20 Pursuit offers several features designed to provide the flexibility required of today's job shop. The machine is capable of turning parts ranging from simple to moderately complex. The Sigma 20 Pursuit comes pre-loaded with attachments and accessories needed to turn a wide variety of parts for the electrical, consumer goods, automotive, aerospace and defense industries. The machine has three double live spindles for a total of six axes for cross milling front or back. As a manufacturer's needs evolve, tools such as angle drills, polygon milling tools and saw mills can be added to the machine.

The design of the Sigma 20 Pursuit is based on the done-in-one concept. Parts can be machined to completion in one set-up, without requiring de-burring or secondary finishing operations. Additionally, a versatile arrangement of tools can be loaded in a single set-up. The machine accommodates 8-16 front tools and 8 backworking tools, all of which can be used in any combination.

The Tornos Sigma 20 Pursuit offers Swiss stability through its substantial one-piece core motor direct drive spindles, 5/8" tool shanks, powerful seven horsepower drive, fully synchronous rotary guide bushing for rigidity and rigid one-piece cast iron base with built-in pre-cast cooling channels. Simultaneous machining on front and back spindles, high cutting speeds and one-inch stock capability can greatly enhance productivity.
