The Romi G30 M HT - A Rugged Turning Center

Large Parts, Heavy Stock Removal?
Get a Machine up to the Task

ERLANGER, KY - The Romi G30 M HT is a rugged turning center ideal for taking heavy cuts in difficult-to-machine materials. Conversational programming makes it equally adept at mixed-volume, short-run production as well as dedicated high-volume applications.

With a swing of 22.8", a maximum turning diameter of 12.6" and a cutting length of 40.15", the rigid, heavy-duty, high-torque G30 M HT combines heavy stock removal with milling and drilling in a large machine package. Rapid traverse rates of 708 imp (X axis) and 945 imp (Z axis) mean accelerated machine cycle times and reduced non-cut time. Also decreasing cycle time is the 12-station, VDI-40 servo driven, bi-directional hydraulically clamped, "no rise" three-piece curvic coupling tool turret. Indexing is a fast 0.6 seconds, with a full 180° index taking just over a second. Indexing accuracy is ± 8 arc sec, and indexing repeatability is ± 2 arc sec.

The G30 M HT's 35° slant bed design features a stress-relieved cast one-piece "L" shaped bed, incorporating an oversized vee and flat way, ensuring the ultimate in accuracy over the full life of the machine. Sturdy construction provides superior vibration dampening, greater accuracy as well as longer cutting tool life.
Guideway surfaces are Turcite-coated and hand-scraped for ultra-precise fitting. Slides are moved on Romi-manufactured heat-treated and ground ball screws. The screw design uses a double preloaded ball nut to minimize heat and eliminate backlash. Ball screws are directly coupled to the servo motor - no high-maintenance clutches - and are supported at both ends for faster traverse rates and higher slide thrust.

The spindle. The G30 M HT A2-8 with integrated C-axis spindle permits vibration-free full horsepower cuts for routine heavy stock removal. The motor and drive system are rated at 30 hp for a full 30 minutes. The G30 M HT's programmable variable-speed spindle is fast enough to utilize today's latest cutting tool technology. The A2-8" spindle features a 4.09" through-hole, a 3.5" bar capacity. The 2,500 RPM HT headstock has speeds from 4 to 2,500 RPM. A 12.4". Autoblok hydraulically actuated three-jaw chuck with a set of soft jaws is standard. Turret tooling includes 7 turning holders, 4 ID tool holders with reduction sleeves and 1 facing holder. Driven tools can be located in any one of the 12 positions, but only the working tool is being driven. The live tool drive is a 7.5 hp variable speed 4 - 4,000 RPM motor for milling and drilling tools using ER 32 collets.

The G30's symmetrical spindle housing is thermally isolated from the base, and due to clearance below the spindle, thermal growth is significantly reduced. The spindle bearings are lubricated for life. Expensive integral spindle motors are not used.
The spindle nose is supported by a double row of cylindrical roller bearings, combined with angular contact ball bearings. A double row of cylindrical roller bearings at the rear complete a spindle design that will offer many years of reliable performance.

The tailstock has a programmable body and quill. Tailstocks are supplied with a rigid built-in live center.

The control. The GE Fanuc 21i-T features the latest technological advancements in a uniquely small space. The 10.4" color display and full keyboard conveniently swivel for ease of operation. The 21i-T moves data at top speed through four cables: power, spindle, servo and I/O. Maintaining high technological standards, the Fanuc Serial Servo Bus (FSSB), connects the CNC to multiple servo amplifiers over a single high-speed, multi-drop, fiber-optic connection for superior electrical noise immunity.
A PCMCIA card slot is mounted on the front of the LCD unit. By simply inserting a memory card, part programs, parameters and ladder logic are easily transferred. The 21i-T can be configured with an Ethernet card for integrated manufacturing solutions and remote routine maintenance and troubleshooting. The DNC2, RS-232 or RS-422 interface makes it easy to connect the CNC to a PC for cell networking and data collection.

Operator-friendly software. Romi Machine Guidance software in the 21i-T is the ideal CNC for operators with varying levels of experience, as it simplifies the
transition from manual programming to G code programming. As the operator's skill level rises and/or part geometry complexity increases, he can easily move through four levels of part programming generation.

For more than 70 years and some 140,000 installations Romi's innovation, reliability, dependability and ease-of-use have set it apart - and ahead - of the competition. Romi's Combination and CNC lathes, turning and machining centers are meticulously built at its nine-plant manufacturing complex in Santa Barbara d'Oeste, Brazil, and are sold and supported in more than 60 countries. From its North American Headquarters in Erlanger, Kentucky, Romi provides an unparalleled degree of training, service and support for all Romi machine tool products.
