Press Release Summary:
With CRI of 95, 0.23 x 0.19 x 0.5 in. Osram Ostar Medical is comprised of 4 LED chips in colors warm white, ultra white, green, and amber. This permits users to set shade of white emitted by LED according to individual requirements within color temperature range of 3700K to 5000K. Along with thin-film chip technology, LED features flat, antireflex-coated glass cover; thermal resistance Rth 1.8K/W; and typical brightness of ~180 lm at 4000K and ~325 lm at 5000K.
Original Press Release:
Osram Ostar Medical LED Provides Better Light in the Operating Room
New “tunable white” LED with high CRI
The new Osram Ostar Medical from Osram Opto Semiconductors is the first LED component with a high color-rendering index (CRI) of 95 and the capability of adjusting the temperature of the color white. This makes it ideal for medical applications such as operating rooms, where a precisely controlled chromaticity coordinate and high natural color rendering are crucial.
The Osram Ostar Medical is comprised of four different LED chips in the colors warm white, ultra white, green and amber. This permits users to set the shade of white emitted by the LED according to their individual requirements within a color temperature range of between 3700 and 5000 Kelvin. This combination of precise chromaticity coordinate control and exceptionally high CRI is particularly important for lighting in the medical sector. When optimized for the red spectrum (Ra9), the CRI remains at around 95 so that red shades are particularly true-to-life – ideal for lighting systems in operating rooms.
Compact dimensions, simple to install
With a footprint of just 5.9 x 4.8 mm (approx. 0.23 x 0.19 inches) and a housing height of only 1.2 mm (approx. 0.5 inches), the design of the Osram Ostar Medical is very compact. It is only about one-quarter as high as the components ordinarily used. It owes its compact design to the flat, antireflex-coated glass cover with which the LED is equipped instead of the usual lens
“Compact luminaires prevail in the modern medical lighting sector, and the low height of the new Osram Ostar Medical makes it the ideal lighting solution,” explained Michael Godwin, Director of Visible LED Products at Osram Opto Semiconductors. “The component is standardized, which means that customers can use the commonly available lenses.” As with other members of the Osram Ostar LED family, the Osram Ostar Medical is simple to install with standard soldering processes.
