Tunable Demux offers colorless demultiplexing in ROADM networks.

Press Release Summary:

Equipped with MEMS Tunable Filters, 4-channel MEMS Tunable Demux allows both wavelength selection and signal continuation. After multi-wavelength input signal is broadcast to filter, MEMS mirror tilts precisely to tune single wavelength channel to output fiber. Featuring Gaussian-shaped pass-band optimized for 50 or 100 GHz channel spacing, MEMS mirror provides ±50 pm wavelength setting accuracy within C or L Bands and tuning speed of less than 30 msec.

DiCon's New MEMS Tunable Demux Offers a Simple Solution to Colorless Demultiplexing in ROADM Networks

Richmond, CA - DiCon Fiberoptics' MEMS Tunable Demux offers a new approach to colorless demultiplexing in ROADM networks. Incoming signals are broadcasted into an array of DiCon's well-recognized MEMS Tunable Filters for multiple wavelength-selection. The Tunable Demux arrives as part of DiCon's inauguration of a new colorless/directionless ROADM product family aimed at optimizing metro and regional optical networks.

The Tunable Demux's unique design enables network architects to effectively apply colorless demultiplexing. Its configuration allows both wavelength selection and signal continuation. The array arrangement reduces size and exploits electronics sharing for more versatility and less power consumption. While the stock model comes in four channels, the Tunable Demux may be scaled to any number of channels to suit a particular architecture. Finally, the use of DiCon MEMS Tunable Filters ensures the Tunable Demux's superior optical performance and reliability.

DiCon's MEMS Tunable Filter, which has been in high-volume production for over three years, is the key to the Tunable Demux's colorless functionality. After a multi-wavelength input signal is broadcast to a Tunable Filter, a DiCon MEMS mirror inside the filter tilts precisely to tune a single wavelength channel to the output fiber. The MEMS mirror features a Gaussian-shaped pass-band optimized for 50 or 100 GHz channel spacing, a +/- 50pm wavelength setting accuracy within the C or L Bands, and a tuning speed of less than 30ms. Manufactured under DiCon's proprietary specifications, the Tunable Filters demonstrate excellent durability, thermal stability, and repeatability.

"The MEMS Tunable Demux is a cost effective solution to colorless demultiplexing," Robert Schleicher, the Vice President of Product Development, observed. "Its simplicity and flexibility has made dynamic network management more attainable than before."
