Flexible New City Machine Trunnions Allow Fast and Easy Tool Changes

MUNCIE, IN (February 13, 2003) -The CityMachine(TM) CNC High Performance Trunnion (HPT) and Heavy Duty Trunnion (HDT) feature a unique sliding head design that allows most cutting tools to be conveniently changed outside the machine base. This feature allows most tool changes to be performed in less than a minute, reducing machine downtime.

The sliding spindle carriers are retracted through the machine control, and come standard with quick-change tooling adaptors. Interchangable part chucks allow rapid changeover between different part numbers. Most competitive trunnions on the market today, do not have retractable heads, making tool changes time-consuming and cumbersome.

The HPT comes standard with 3.5 KW (4.7 HP), 9,000-rpm heads. Heads with 5 KW (6.7 HP) and up to 7 KW (9.4 HP) are available as options.

Eight workholding stations are standard and each is equipped with a two-jaw chuck that can use interchangeable top jaws. The indexing drum that holds the work holding chucks is located with a Hirth face coupling. Station-to-station indexes are accomplished in less than one second.

Heads can be arranged in horizontal and radial positions to machine multiple features at each station. The control system uses Indramat servo drive units and an Indramat CNC to control all motion.

A coolant and chip removal system is standard. All CityMachine Trunnion Machines have a modular design, making changeovers and retooling easy and less costly than many dedicated machines.

The HDT is available with spindle horsepower up to 20 HP. Six workholding stations are standard and each is equipped with a two-jaw chuck that can use interchangeable top jaws.
