Original Press Release:

Trunnion Machines from City Machine Designed for High-Volume Part Manufacturing

MUNCIE, IN (February 17, 2004) - City Machine offers two models, the HPT and HDT, of its legendary trunnion machine, both designed for high-volume part production typical in the automotive, appliance and valve manufacturing industries to name a few. The HPT features eight workholding stations, each with its own spindle and two jaw chuck, while the HDT features six. An HPT can be equipped with up to 20 separate sliding tool carriers, while the HDT can be configured with up to 15. Each spindle performs the work of a single turning machine or horizontal machining center at a fraction of the floor space requirements, and operating costs.

The indexing drum that holds the workholding chucks is located with a Hirth face coupling and station-to-station indexes are accomplished in less than one second. Heads can be arranged in horizontal and radial positions to machine multiple features at each station.

A sliding spindle carrier allows most cutting tools to be conveniently changed outside the machine base in less than a minute. The spindles are also equipped with quick-change tooling adapters, enabling even faster tool changes.

The HPT is available with spindle horsepower of 5, 7.5 and 10 HP, while the HDT is available with up to a 20 HP spindle.

Improving machining options and versatility, the control system uses Indramat® CNC and Indramat® servo drive units to control all ranges of motion, offering maximum machining capability from one state-of-the-art supplier with worldwide support and distribution.

A coolant and chip removal system is standard - a low pressure pump supplies fluid to cool the cutting tools and flush chips into the conveyor, while a high pressure pump supplies coolant through the spindles and tools.

Qualified City Machine technicians assist in the set-up and operation of all CityMachine(TM) CNC Trunnion Manufacturing Systems until the machine is up and running smoothly, making installation quicker and simpler.
