City Machine Reinvents The Trunnion Machine

Unique Sliding Spindle Carriers Allow Faster, Easier Tool Changes
In The New CityMachine(TM) High Performance Trunnion (HPT) Machine

MUNCIE, IN (March 8, 2002) -City Machine has reinvented the trunnion machine with the introduction of the revolutionary new High Performance Trunnion (HPT) Machine, offering high productivity, ease of operation and maintenance, and the flexibility to adapt to changing needs.

Featuring City Machine's unique, durable sliding spindle carriers that allow most cutting tools to be conveniently changed outside the machine base in less than a minute, the HPT reduces non-productive machine time and skinned knuckles.

With the push of a button, the sliding spindle carriers retract from the machine base, allowing easy access to the tooling area. Spindles are furnished with quick-change tooling adapters, enabling even faster tool changes. With another push of a button, the spindle carriers slide back into the base, and the machining process continues.

Each spindle performs the work of a single turning machine or horizontal machining center. The savings in both floor space and operating costs, plus increased throughput, provide all the benefits of many machines in one.

The HPT is available with spindle horsepower of 5, 7.5 and 10 HP. Eight workholding stations are standard and each is equipped with a two-jaw chuck that can use interchangeable top jaws.

The indexing drum that holds the workholding chucks is located with a Hirth face coupling and station-to-station indexes are accomplished in less than one second. Heads can be arranged in horizontal and radial positions to machine multiple features at each station.

Improving machining options and versatility, the control system uses Indramat® CNC and Indramat® servo drive units to control all ranges of motion, offering maximum machining capability from one state-of-the-art supplier with worldwide support and
distribution.

A coolant and chip removal system is standard. The HPT's modular design makes changeovers and retooling easy and less costly than many dedicated machines.

Fast delivery of the HPT is assured and City Machine sends qualified staff members to help in the set-up and operation until the machine is up and running smoothly.

Established in 1935, City Machine Tool and Die has grown into a global supplier of manufacturing systems. With unique mechanical and electrical engineering capabilities, City Machine designs and builds manufacturing solutions that span world-class special machines, fixture programs, production parts and engineering.
