Hendrickson Kicks Off Production of Trailer Air Disc Brakes for INTRAAX® and VANTRAAX®

CANTON, Ohio - Hendrickson launched production of air disc brake packages as a premium option on many INTRAAX® and VANTRAAX® suspension systems.

With the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) eyeing shorter stopping distances and additional requirements for high-speed stopping, air disc brakes provide an additional tool in the industry's quest to improve performance.

Hendrickson continues to meet the ever-changing braking demands of today's trailer operators and to anticipate future trends and requirements for improved stopping performance with both a full line of traditional S-cam foundation style and now disc brakes.

Active in development of trailer air disc brake systems over the past 10 years including supplying systems to Australia for the past three years, Hendrickson introduced a unique generic torque plate that accommodates multiple disc brake designs.

Hendrickson, working with Haldex as a preferred supplier, delivers a complete air disc braking solution matched to several wheel-end and spindle options meeting the requirements of most trailer applications. Disc brakes from other manufacturers are also available.

"Our disc brake systems are compatible with other advanced technologies such as roll stability systems and electronically controlled braking systems," notes Gary Gerstenslager, general manager, Hendrickson Trailer Suspension Systems.

Particularly attractive to haulers with extremely demanding brake usage and hazardous materials carriers, disc brakes provide more consistent braking during extended braking application cycles such as descending long grades. Air disc brakes also improve stopping distance at high speeds.

Today's air discs overcome many of the reliability, efficiency and servicing problems of earlier generations and continue to narrow the maintenance cost gap.

Providing fleets and owner operators with the latest in heavy-duty trailer braking technology, air discs enhance Hendrickson's extensive array of S-cam foundation systems, which include Hendrickson Extended-service Brakes (HXS®) and wide HXS and unique lining materials such as ULTRA 20(TM).

Combined with the road-proven lightweight and low-maintenance advantages of INTRAAX and VANTRAAX suspension systems, Hendrickson air disc brake packages deliver the state-of-the-art technology and the competitive edge truckers expect from Hendrickson.
