Triple-Play Testers are capable of single-ended assessment.

Press Release Summary:

Copper, xDSL, and triple-play testers of AXS-200/600 series come with software that simplifies turning up residential triple-play services. Field technicians can determine what xDSL data rates copper loops can support prior to actually connecting or provisioning circuit. Same test suite can also determine the level of IP video service that can be provisioned. Multi-layer analysis and fault correlation help pinpoint problems, and single-end testing eliminates need for 2 technicians.

EXFO Expands Triple-Play Test Capabilities of AXS-200/600 Product Line

Innovative loop qualification feature provides single-end copper plant assessment prior to broadband service activation in order to ensure a quality data and video offering

QUEBEC CITY, April 16 -- EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (NASDAQ:EXFO)(NASDAQ:TSX:)(NASDAQ:EXF) announced today the release of a new software suite that brings powerful capabilities to the AXS-200/600 product line ? a handheld series of copper, xDSL and triple-play testers that dramatically simplifies turning up residential triple-play services. Available as an option on existing or new AXS-200/600 series testers, this new software allows field technicians to determine what xDSL data rates the copper loop can support prior to actually connecting or provisioning the circuit. The same test suite can also determine the level of IP video service that can be provisioned.

Given the myriad of new bandwidth-intensive applications being deployed in residential access networks, it's becoming essential for network operators to ascertain the quality and capacity of their existing copper loops to support such applications without sacrificing on quality of service (QoS). Traditional test methodologies require services to be deployed before there is any visibility into the reliability and quality of the service offering. With the latest AXS-200/600 software suite, network operators can now reliably determine the level of service that can be provided prior to actually deploying the service.

EXFO's AXS-200/600 series testers offer powerful multi-layer analysis and fault correlation that allows field technicians to accurately pinpoint not just what the problem is, but also where in the network it's located. The AXS-200/600 series provides a unique single-end testing capability which eliminates the need to have two technicians to qualify a copper pair.

Building on this innovative approach, this latest software suite allows one field technician to perform a quick data rate qualification test from one end of the loop. The same test will also indicate the number of IPTV streams that can be deployed on the loop. These latest features greatly enhance the AXS-200/600 series offering and increases the efficiency of field technicians.

"Due to a highly competitive environment in today's broadband market, network operators are under intense pressure to accelerate testing and provide cost-effective, highly reliable services to their end-customers," said Etienne Gagnon, EXFO's Vice-President of Product Management and Marketing. "They're faced with the challenge of differentiating their service offering and reducing operating costs, making it essential to ensure quality of service from the very start. The latest AXS-200/600 software suite enables network operators to increase efficiency, reduce testing time and eliminate customer churn from the very beginning of the deployment process."
