Triangle Eliminates Weld with New Bell Crank Design
Triangle Manufacturing, a US-based high-volume manufacturer and supplier of OEM-specific components has recently designed a new component that showcases problem-solving design. This bell crank is an example of mechanical fastening that eliminates troublesome welds and ensures a more reliable joint. The original design was a cast bell crank and our cost-saving solution utilized a stamped assembly.
This crank is meant to control rotation of a shaft that is involved in skid steer steering operations. Triangle designed and produced this improved design for a global agriculture and construction OEM. The benefits of this component range from a consistent formed bore that is held to within 0.0015 tolerance to significant cost-savings.
Costs were decreased because of: the use of flat stock rather than costly tubing, the process of mechanical joining, and using stamping rather than casting. The tube was formed from flat steel, decreasing material expenses, since tubing is a higher initial cost. Triangle replaced a weld with a mechanical joint, eliminating weld time and expense and cycle time was also significantly shorter. Triangle has been a stamp manufacturer for almost 100 years; they used that experience to manufacture a stamped component that featured the strength and tolerance of a cast part without the problems of cost and weight.
