Triangle Develops Cost-Reduced Cushioned HVAC Bearings for Evaporative Cooler Applications

Triangle is an indispensable supplier for swamp cooler and HVAC manufacturers in the Middle East, due to their durable cushioned pillow block mounted bearings. They are currently developing a bronze alloy sleeve bearing in response to requests for reduced costs from their longtime swamp cooler manufacturer customers. The bronze alloy sleeve will be a significant cost-saving solution when complete.
Evaporative coolers, also known as swamp or desert coolers, cool air through the evaporation of water. This uses less energy than other options and is most successful in very arid environments. Brent Walker, president of Triangle Manufacturing, says that this new opportunity "gives Triangle a chance to prove that cushioned sleeve bearings have a place in modern HVAC, many engineers forget about plain bearings and automatically assume they need a costlier solution, when in reality a sleeve bearing is a great fit."
Triangle's extremely cost-efficient bearings can withstand harsh environments, including both the humid interior of a desert cooler and the dusty, blowing landscape. The blowing dust and dirt can do irreparable damage to the inner workings of a ball bearing very quickly, most likely leading to bearing failure and costly replacement. Choosing a Triangle sleeve bearing rather than a costly ball-bearing has both monetary and performance benefits, along with the advantageous vibration-suppressing cushion and sturdy mounting.
A Triangle sleeve bearing can withstand the small amount of sand, debris or other abrasive material that enters the miniscule gap between the shaft and bushing. The grains tend to press into the bronze sleeve, reducing damage to the shaft and avoiding complete bearing failure. Triangle's customer's replaced the bearings on their desert coolers more infrequently after switching to Triangle's NA cushioned pillow block mountings and sleeve bearings. This reduction in bearing failure allowed for less maintenance, less cost and less repair time in the sweltering heat.
