Canary Labs Trend Historian-Over 1 Million Tags with 1-Second Updates on 1 Machine

Martinsburg, PA-August 19, 2009-Canary Labs, a leading developer of historian software and tools, announces Canary Trend Historian version 8.0, designed to ease the task of collecting, storing, managing, and automatically validating vast quantities of time series data for partners and end-users alike. The Canary Trend Historian has been successfully deployed and used in production systems since 2000. Trend Historian version 8.0-available in either a 32-bit or 64-bit version-has been re-designed to maximize performance, providing the industry's highest capacities and throughputs.

Features of Canary Trend Historian version 8.0 that make it particularly effective and easy to use include:

  • High Performance: The writing performance on the Server exceeds 3.6 million updates (TVQs) per second, and the reading performance exceeds 13 million updates (TVQs) per second.

  • 64-bit and 32-bit versions available: The 64-bit version is faster and provides increased addressable virtual memory capabilities to better handle large tag counts.

  • Scalability of Tags: 1 hundred to more than 1 million tags available to accommodate the smallest systems to the largest, high-end systems.

  • Scalability of Clients: Since Trend Historian is a multi-threaded application, the number of clients is unlimited.

  • "No Loss" Compression: Trend Historian compacts the data to minimize the disk storage requirements, and the data stream from the Historian returns the exact data stream that was sent. For example, a typical sample includes a tags Time, Value & Quality (TVQ) data and is compacted to 4.5 to 6 bytes of disk space. Data resolution is 100ns with unicode support, and the logger application supports two forms of dead banding: absolute and percentage.

  • OPC-HDA compliant: Trending tools are OPC client and OPC-HDA server based solutions, tested, and fully compliant with the OPC Specifications. The new OPC-UA standard will be supported within the next few months.

"Due to the high performance of Canary Trend Historian, we do not have to implement compression techniques or limit display to selected data points to show fast trend chart data," said Gary Stern, President of Canary Labs. "Our compacting techniques allow raw data to be delivered quickly and accurately without compromising data integrity as is often the case with many other historians."

"The unique features and high performance of Trend Historian version 8.0 make it an ideal solution for OEMs as well as end users," added Jack Wilkins, Director of Sales. "Canary is taking inquiries for channel partners on a worldwide basis due to the increased demand we are seeing for robust trend historian solutions."
