Trapeze Networks Gives Wireless Mobility to Thousands at SC10

SC10 SCinet's 802.11n Wireless Network Usage Grows

PLEASANTON, Calif., -- Trapeze Networks, a Belden brand (NYSE: BDC) and leader in enterprise wireless LAN equipment and management software, today announced its solutions provided 100% wireless networking coverage to attendees using their mobile devices this past week at the SC10 conference at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center (MCCNO) in New Orleans, LA.

During the seven days of the SC10 conference, New Orleans was host to one of the most powerful and advanced networks in the world - SCinet. SCinet deployed IEEE 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n wireless networks within the MCCNO. Part of the production SCinet network, the wireless networks gave access to the Internet and many other national and agency networks. Wireless network connectivity was available in the meeting rooms, exhibit halls, and common areas of the MCCNO.

In order to create a highly available wireless network, SCinet wanted a system that was reliable and had the capacity to support several thousand users running multiple mobile devices. Jamie Van Randwyk, chairperson, SCinet, SC10, said, "SC attendees are among the heaviest users of mobile devices. It was critical that SCinet provide dependable, high-quality mobile connectivity from all conference areas."

This year, SCinet has expanded its wireless network infrastructure to include 802.11n support in addition to 802.11 a/b/g, with more than 125 Trapeze Mobility Point® MP-82 dual radio802.11naccess points. Also in use aretwoMobility Exchange® MX-200R Intelligent WLAN controllers. Trapeze Networks Mobility System Software(TM) (MSS) with RingMaster® provided support to SCinet in its efforts to plan, manage and budget for guest access networks, in addition to managing the network during the conference, including band steering and auto-tuning capabilities. Ensuring a fully-reliable wireless network, SCinet utilized Trapeze's controller clustering and load-balanced virtualization that supports either N:1 or N:N automatic hitless failover.

Van Randwyk said, "SCinet has deployed wireless for the last eight years and has used a couple different wireless infrastructure vendors including Trapeze. This year, Trapeze was the first vendor we tapped because of the positive experience we have had at past conferences which proved to be the case again for 2010."
