Trapeze Mobility System Ensures 'Always-On' Information Access to Students and Teachers at University of Sharjah

EMW implements Trapeze MX-400 Mobility Exchanges and RingMaster wireless LAN management suite at the University

May 14, 2007 Trapeze Networks, the award-winning global provider of Smart Mobile(TM) wireless solutions, has announced that its cutting-edge solutions implemented within the University of Sharjah by EMW has helped meet the University's increased demand for seamless, secure and integrated WiFi access.

With the implementation of Trapeze MX-400 Mobility Exchanges that deliver reliable Wi-Fi service for large number of users, along with the latest version of the RingMaster Planning and RingMaster Management tool suite, over 8,500 concurrent users were able to seamlessly migrate to a mobility oriented infrastructure. The new highly-scalable wireless LAN infrastructure at the University now extends to the current communication links for data access across the existing 13 colleges and also supports VoWLAN and is capable of location-based services functions.

"We needed a stable, reliable and secure wireless solution for our educational environment that also ensured seamless integration in the existing wired network and extended the network access. After thorough investigation of the available WLAN technology vendors, we selected the Trapeze Networks Smart Mobile solution through EMW. The main reasons for this were our long-term relationship with our systems integrator EMW and the proven functionality of the Trapeze Mobility System," said Dr. Mostepha Belmihoub, Computer Center Director, University of Sharjah.

Feras Zeidan, Regional Manager, Middle East and Africa, Trapeze Networks, said, "We are glad that our mobility solutions helped address the wireless connectivity requirements of the University of Sharjah. This wireless LAN infrastructure that is accessible 24-hours-a-day with multimedia capabilities, will also meet the high security and capability standards of the University. The successful implementation of our solutions at the University of Sharjah, bring to the fore, our expertise in efficiently catering to the requirements of large organisations and educational institutions."

The entire wireless network for University of Sharjah consists of MX-200 mobility exchange switches and MP-372, 54 Mbps wireless mobility points (MPs). This distributed wireless infrastructure will be managed from a central management at the University's Computer Centre using Trapeze's Ringmaster software.

Expressing his satisfaction with the new implementation, Dr. Mostepha said, "We are very satisfied with the results in terms of wireless coverage, security and seamless integration with the University network infrastructure and directory services. The wireless LAN is now covering all the academic and administrative buildings on campus."

The Trapeze Smart Mobile is a pioneering approach to wireless networking that enables organizations to deploy massively scalable mobile applications that leverage their existing infrastructure. Smart Mobile achieves this breakthrough by introducing intelligent switching, the first and only WLAN architecture that optimizes network traffic based on the underlying application.
