Transmitter uses guided-wave radar level technology.

Press Release Summary:

With one-tank penetration, Rosemount 3300 transmitter series offers multivariable output to provide top-level and interface-level variables from one, 2-wire device. Utilizing Time Domain Reflectometry, unit sends microwave pulses down probe and receives reflected signals. Reflected signals determine distance to top and interface level. Automatic Gain Control signal processing automatically adjust gain required in applications.

Emerson Introduces New Family of Rosemount Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitters

New technology expands level application solutions, reduces maintenance costs

CHANHASSEN, MN (November 15, 2002) - Emerson Process Management introduces its Rosemount 3300 Series Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitter family of products. These transmitters offer multivariable output to provide both top level and interface level variables from a single two wire device. Use of new guided wave radar technology enhances the user's ability to make many process level measurements that have historically proved challenging and costly.

The 3300 Series utilizes a new Time Domain Reflectometry. Using this technology, the device sends a microwave pulse down a probe and reflected signals are received. The reflected signals are used to determine the distance to the top level and can be used to determine the distance to an interface level. This technology provides an inherently stronger signal-to-noise ratio than free radiating radar gauges. It also can be used in a vessel with a tight geometry or obstructions that prevent the use of other top-down level measurement technologies. Guided Wave Radar can also cope with probe coating and material build up better than other contacting level technologies. It uses no moving parts.

Rosemount has implemented Automatic Gain Control signal processing to automatically adjust the gain required in an application to obtain the best possible measurement. This technique makes it easy to distinguish weak signals from products with low dielectric constants, resulting in a better signal-to-noise ratio and a more reliable measurement.

The Model 3302 Multivariable(TM) Transmitter allows for the simultaneous measurement of both a top level and an interface level with the use of one device, one tank penetration, and one pair of wires. All Series 3300 products are available with cut-to-fit probes and a dual-compartment electronics housing which is modular in design that can be detached from the probe without removing the probe from the process, and rotated in any direction. All these features make it simple to commission a 3300 Series transmitter, minimizing time-consuming user involvement.

This product adds another solution to Emerson's PlantWeb(R) digital plant architecture, providing a Multivariable measurement that is AMS Aware. PlantWeb provides enhanced measurement solutions to improve process availability, increase productivity, and reduce equipment cost-of-ownership.
