Transmitter tracks up/down pulse totals.

Press Release Summary:

Housed in 35 mm DIN rail case, Laureate Model TA-FRT is powered by 95-240 Vac ±10% or optionally by low voltage 8-28 Vac or 9-37 Vdc. It produces isolated 4-20 mA or 0-10 V output and includes dual-channel signal conditioner, which is suitable for pulse or ac sources, such as NPN or PNP proximity switches, contact closures, magnetic pickups down to 12 mV, or ac voltages up to 250 Vac. Equipped with RS232 port, transmitter is programmed via external PC and Instrument Setup software.

Original Press Release:

4-20 mA DIN Rail Transmitter Tracks Up/Down Pulse Totals and Combinations of Two Totals

Costa Mesa, CA - Laurel Electronics, Inc. announces the Laureate Model TA-FRT, an isolated 4-20 mA or 0-10V output, DIN rail mount transmitter for pulse totals. Applications include flow volume from turbine flow meters, time based AC line cycles, and distance based on pulses from a magnetic pickup which senses rotating gears. The transmitter can also be programmed for rate.

The transmitter features a dual-channel signal conditioner, which is suitable for a wide range of pulse or AC sources, such as NPN or PNP proximity switches, contact closures, digital logic, magnetic pickups down to 12 mV, or AC voltages up to 250 Vac. An isolated 5V, 10V or 24V excitation supply is standard to power proximity switches and other sensors.

With the Standard main board, either transmitter channel (A or B) can be independently set up and scaled to count up from zero (or other value) to a preset limit, or to count down from a preset value to zero (or other limit) at pulse rates to 1 MHz. A special input line provides reset.

With an Extended main board, Channel A can serve as an up/down counter, where the count direction is dynamically changed by applying a signal to Channel B. For example, Channel A can count pulses from a turbine flow meter, while Channel B inputs the direction of flow. This allows total volume to be tracked in case of reversible flow. Counting on Channel A can also be inhibited by applying a signal to Channel B.

With an Extended main board, the 4-20 mA transmitter output can also be scaled to track rate plus totalized rate, or arithmetic combinations of the two input channels A and B: A+B, A-B, AxB, A/B, A/B-1. For example, the output can track the sum of two flows for total flow, the difference of two flows for net flow, or the ratio of two flows for fluid mixing applications. The arithmetic capabilities can be applied to either rate or total.

The transmitter is housed in a 35 mm DIN rail case, which is only 22.5 mm (0.89") thick. It is powered by 95-240 Vac ±10% or optionally by low voltage 8-28 Vac or 9-37 Vdc. All electrical connections are via detachable screw clamp connectors.

Two isolated solid state relays rated 120 mA at 125 Vac or 240 mA at 150 Vdc are optional for alarm or control. Programmable relay operating modes include operation above or below the setpoint, latching or non-latching, hysteresis mode, and band deviation mode.

The transmitter includes an RS232 port and is easily programmed using an external PC and Windows-based Instrument Setup software. This software applies to all Laureate digital panel meters, counters, timers and transmitters, and can be downloaded at no charge from Laurel's website www.laurels.com.

The base price is $235. For specifications and the pricing of options, visit www.laurels.com/transmitter-4-20-totalizer.htm.
