Industry's Only Second-Generation Foundation Fieldbus Transmitters

IRVINE, Calif., March 3, 2003 - Further demonstrating its expertise and experience in FOUNDATION(TM) Fieldbus technology, Emerson Process Management, Rosemount Analytical, Liquid Division introduces the Model 5081 two-wire transmitter, the industry's only second-generation FOUNDATION Fieldbus transmitter. The Model 5081 is available as a HART®-compatible two-wire transmitter. This means a user can completely set up and configure the instrument from a remote location, saving both time and money. Using HART and FOUNDATION Fieldbus digital communications protocols provides access to Asset Management Solutions (AMS) and other host applications. AMS allows the user to set up and configure the Model 5081, read process variables and troubleshoot problems from a personal computer or a host anywhere in the plant, making management of the Model 5081 easy and cost effective.

The Model 5081 is available configured for pH, conductivity or amperometric measurement. It is designed for use in even the most rugged and extreme environments in the water and wastewater, pharmaceutical, metals and surface finishing, power and chemical processes. The ability to configure and calibrate the transmitters remotely is especially important in these kinds of conditions, where it may be difficult for personnel to physically reach the transmitter.

"Rosemount Analytical leads the liquid analysis market in FOUNDATION Fieldbus technologies. While other manufacturers are just beginning to offer their first FOUNDATION Fieldbus products, the Model 5081 represents a second, more advanced generation," said John Wright, vice president of marketing, Emerson Process Management, Rosemount Analytical, Liquid Division.

The Model 5081A amperometric transmitter can measure dissolved oxygen, free chlorine, total chlorine and ozone in a variety of process liquids. Since the Model 5081A is fully configurable, the customer can keep a number of these transmitters on the shelf and configure them as needed, rather than stocking separate chlorine and dissolved oxygen and ozone transmitters. "Only one transmitter for everything saves time and money. We make our transmitters fully configurable so the customer can fit the transmitter into the process, instead of fitting the process into the transmitter," said Wright.

The Model 5081A allows for both automatic and manual pH correction for free chlorine measurements, in which pH correction is necessary because the amperometric sensor response is pH dependent. Unlike other instruments, the Model 5081A does not require messy and expensive sample condition and acidification. Instead, the Model 5081A measures the sample pH and uses it to correct the chlorine sensor signal. In pH measurement, the Model 5081P features automatic buffer recognition and stabilization check. Glass impedance diagnostics warn of an aging or failed pH sensor.
