Transition Networks to Demo Power Fiber Extender for Long Distance Power-over-Ethernet

Company Working with SENKO Who Will Display Solution at OFC 2016

Minneapolis, MN – Transition Networks, Inc., the data network integration technology expert, today announced it will display its prototype Power Fiber Extender solution at the OFC Conference on March 20 - 24 in Anaheim, California.

The new solution leverages a hybrid fiber copper cable, using the SENKO IP-ONE® connector, to deliver Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) and fiber optic data connectivity over long distances. Typical PoE solutions provide power and gigabit speeds only up to 100 meters, but the Power Fiber Extender provides full PoE+ (30 Watts) power and gigabit speeds greater than 750 meters. The solution is ideal for long-distance needs where a remote power source is not easily accessible, such as outdoor surveillance cameras, Wi-Fi access points, small cells and digital signage.

Transition Networks’ Power Fiber Extender supports 10/100/1000Base-T to 100/1000Base-X Ethernet with separate local and remote units. The local units require an external power supply and provide power and data to the remote units through the hybrid fiber/copper cable. The remote units provide PoE+ and data to the user equipment via the RJ-45 port. The product will have an IP67 enclosure and the robust SENKO IP-ONE® fiber/copper plug-and-play connector solution. As demonstrated, the product is intended for outdoor environments.

Transition Networks worked with SENKO Advanced Components in the development of the Power Fiber Extender to utilize their unique and robust hybrid fiber-copper connectors. SENKO Advanced Components, headquartered in Japan, has a fiber-optic product line with more than 1,000 products for the telecom and datacom industries worldwide.

Transition Networks’ sister company, Suttle, which develops a broad range of critical components for premise and outside plant networking, developed the IP67-rated enclosure. This means the internal electronics have total protection against dust and low-pressure water exposure.

The Power Fiber Extender will be on display at OFC at the SENKO booth #2225. For more information, visit http://www.ofcconference.org.

“Applications of PoE beyond the 100 meter capability of copper cables are growing because the PoE standard makes it so convenient,” said Tony LeFebvre, director of product management for Transition Networks. “This new solution combines Transition Networks’ expertise and our partners’ technology to provide a plug-and-play solution to deliver both data and power over great distances without the expense of securing a remote power source”

The new Power Fiber Extender will be available for evaluation in the 3rd Quarter of 2016. For more information about Transition Networks’ products, solutions and applications, visit transition.com.
