Axiom Analytical, Inc. Announces a New Robust Transflectance Probe for Near Infrared (NIR) Process Analysis

TUSTIN, Calif., – Axiom Analytical, Inc. has announced the availability of its robust FPX-300 Process Transflectance Probe. This probe features the reduced diameter needed for many small scale reaction monitoring tasks. In contrast to other transflectance probes, the FPX-300 also features both robust construction and extremely low stray light.

Transflectance probes have traditionally been used in laboratory settings where their small diameters compared to true transmission probes makes them suitable for use with small reaction vessels. However, most transflectance probes are characterized by both fragility and high stray light. The latter factor leads to non-linear response to concentration changes, making such probes unsuitable for precise quantitative analysis. The FPX-300 overcomes this problem by means of a unique optical design which eliminates stray light while enhancing overall transmission. At the same time, the FPX-300 employs very robust construction, making it useful in many demanding process control applications.

FPX-300 probes can withstand high temperatures and pressures and are impervious to attack by most aggressive chemicals.  These features are made possible by the use of Grafoil® seals captured in an electron-beam welded stainless steel structure.  These probes are being applied in such fields as the manufacture of pharmaceutical API’s and food supplements where batch sizes are often not large enough to allow the use of Axiom’s full size FPT Series Transmission probes.

About Axiom Analytical, Inc

Axiom Analytical, Inc. was founded in 1988 by Dr. Mike Doyle and Norm Jennings, pioneers in the field of process FTIR spectroscopy. The Company’s mission is to develop and market the robust sampling equipment, software, and integrated systems required to fully realize the potential of vibrational spectroscopy for solving economically significant problems both in laboratory analysis and manufacturing processes.  The Company’s products are employed in diverse industries ranging from basic chemicals to pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and polymer processing. In short, the Company’s products are found wherever process analytical technology (PAT) is being applied.  Its hardware products include ATR probes, transmission probes, diffuse reflectance probes, Raman probes, flow cells for gas and liquid analysis, and fiber-optic multiplexers. These cover the full range of molecular analysis including mid-IR, near-IR, UV-visible, and Raman spectroscopy.
