Emerson Introduces ATEX Certified Electro-Pneumatic Transducer with High Output Capacity and Wide Range

Fisher® Type i2P-100 electro-pneumatic transducer uniquely allows the end user to select and mark protection method upon installation of the unit, simplifying ordering and reducing inventory

MARSHALLTOWN, IOWA (April 25, 2006) -- Emerson Process Management introduces the Fisher Type i2P-100 electro-pneumatic transducer, which converts milliamp input signals to a switch-selectable proportional pneumatic output signal for lower pneumatic supply consumption and reduced operating costs. The transducer has ATEX certification for Intrinsic Safety (Zone EEx ia IIC T3/T4/T5, Flameproof (Zone EEx d IIC T5/T6) and Type N (Zone EEx nC IIC T5/T6).

The i2P-100 uniquely combines all ATEX and IECEx approvals onto one nameplate, enabling users that require ATEX approvals to select and mark the protection method (intrinsic safety, flameproof, or type n), upon installation of the unit. The need to specify the type of ATEX approval when ordering is no longer necessary, speeding the ordering process and simplifying installation.

An integral pneumatic relay in the i2P-100 provides the high output capacity necessary to drive pneumatic control valve/actuator assemblies without additional volume boosters or positioners. A selectable dip switch can be set for a standard output range of 0.2 to 2.0 bar (3 to 30 psi), and the selectable two-way split range uses either half of the standard input signal. The transducer is approved for use with Natural Gas as the pneumatic supply and features a unique dual compartment which has a third-party approved "explosive fluid seal" between the explosive/corrosive process fluid and the module electronics.

The Fisher® Type i2P-100 is tough, reliable and easy to service with the printed wiring board and dip switches in the patented plug-in converter module coated to help prevent corrosion. The plug-in electronics in the transmitter are encapsulated to provide protection and reliability in hostile environments.

The explosion proof rated housing is designed to meet NEMA 4X, IP64 requirements and the external removable primary orifice and replaceable 5 micron filter are easily accessible for service and maintenance. Electronic and converter modules are contained in separate compartments in the housing, isolating the electronics from the process and allowing easy replacement in the field for reduced maintenance costs.

The plug-in converter module uses small parts of minimum mass, which are balanced symmetrically around a pivot point at the center of the mass. This balanced arrangement, when used in a standard valve/actuator mounted application, results in a high performance instrument that has a reduced sensitivity to vibration.

The transducer features a free-flow, pilot stage design with large internal air passages. These provide excellent tolerance to a dirty pneumatic supply by reducing the effects of contaminant build-up and erosion.

Standard mounting hardware is provided for mounting on the actuator, pipe stand or surface mount. Field wiring connections are made to the terminal block which is accessible under the housing cap. The high capacity and outstanding lag characteristics of the Type i2P-100 transducer make it suitable for direct mounting on control valve/actuator combinations.

The i2P-100 transducer is an important field instrument for final control valve assemblies that power Emerson's PlantWeb digital plant architecture to improve process operations.
