Aries Introduces TQFP To PQFP Adapter For Board Upgrades Without Rework

Frenchtown, NJ, January 2005 - Aries Electronics, an international manufacturer of standard, programmed and custom interconnection products, has announced a new adapter that enables designers to replace a 132-pin PQFP package IC with the newer 144-pin TQFP with no need for board redesign or rework. The top of the new Aries adapter reroutes the pinout of the 144-pin device, such as the Motorola DSP56002, to make it compatible with the 132-pin device footprint on the existing PC board.

The new Aries 7484-117-18 adapter utilizes a gold-plated bump for achieving the SMT connection. This design feature not only eliminates the possibility of bent leads, but provides a rigid, non-slumping standoff for the solder connection. The adapter features a thin substrate construction yet still provides .015" for under fill, if desired.

The UL94V-0-rated adapter body is constructed of a .062" thick glass-filled FR-4 material with 1 oz. copper traces. Male connections are a proprietary patent pending ENIG (electroless nickel immersion gold) plating over silver epoxy. In addition to these standard materials, the new Aries adapter, part of the company's unique Correct-A-Chip line of intelligent connectors, can be furnished in custom materials, platings, sizes and configurations to meet specific application needs.

Pricing for a standard 7484-117-18 adapter is $28.43 each in quantities of 100. Delivery is stock to two weeks ARO.
