Ultra-large multi-touch sensing hardware now compatible with Touchtech Lima software
Zytronic's multi-touch MPCT™ touch sensing solution is now fully compatible with Touchtech Lima, an interactive software solution developed by Touchtech. This combination provides a foundation for companies to develop stunning, large format touchscreens with the resilience essential for public use applications.
"The Lima software platform is optimized for use in commercial and corporate applications using large format displays. These systems will generally have a high frequency of use and therefore be subjected to a considerable amount of wear and tear," explains Ian Crosby, Zytronic sales and marketing director. "Zytronic's multi-touch MPCT sensors are intended for exactly the same types of environments. This is why achieving product compatibility is such a great opportunity for both of us, presenting our respective client bases with a more comprehensive touchscreen solution that addresses all the elements needed to create visually-appealing bezel-free touch display designs."
Working with both the Microsoft Windows 7® and Windows 8® operating systems, Touchtech Lima allows a group of users to simultaneously interact with a variety of multimedia content through a single, multi-touch-enabled display. Capable of working with full HD 1920×1080 pixel displays it can be applied to wall-mounted units or touch tables. Lima gives users a high degree of content customization, so that specific application requirements can be fully met. It has already been incorporated into touch interactive systems deployed in a number of high profile locations, including hotel lobbies, conference facilities and company boardrooms. It is also very well suited to use in university lecture halls, trade shows, exhibition spaces, workshops and retail outlets, as well as design engineer/architect meeting rooms - where blueprints are being viewed and discussed.
The high degree of robustness exhibited by Zytronic's touch sensors means that, unlike conventional front-facing sensor technologies, they are proven for use in even the most physically demanding of operational environments, including unattended, outdoor deployments. Able to detect touch events through thick layers of protective glass, they are effectively invulnerable to impacts, scratches, liquid spillages, exposure to extreme temperatures, shocks, vibrations, etc. This ensures system longevity, with the likelihood of costly maintenance work thus being markedly reduced. Alternative large format multi-touch solutions do not present the same level of resilience. Furthermore, in many cases (due to their utilization of some form of optoelectronics) they require unsightly bezels in which to house the sensing devices, while MPCT negates the need for a bezel. Zytronic's highly sophisticated palm rejection technology is another major advantage - eliminating the effects of false touches, when users accidentally activate the touch sensor through bringing parts of their bodies or other items into contact with the front glass. As a result, errors are avoided and operational integrity is assured.
"Zytronic's rugged MPCT touch sensor offering is totally in line with the sleek, visually striking implementations that our clients want to achieve, as well as ensuring long-term reliability and high levels of accuracy," states Alexander Haydari, business development manager at Touchtech. "It has proved to be a truly flawless convergence of hardware and software that will result in touchscreen deployments which are both robust in construction and able to deliver compelling user experiences."
Zytronic is the developer and manufacturer of a unique range of internationally award-winning touch sensor products. These products employ an embedded sensing element and are based around projected capacitive technology (PCT™) sensing. PCT offers significant durability, environmental stability and optical enhancement benefits to system designers of touch interactive, industrial, self - service and public access equipment. During 2012, Zytronic developed new know-how to create mutual projected capacitive technology (MPCT™), which enables multi-user and multi touch sensing in ultra large form factor sizes up to 84".
Zytronic products are used in electronic displays for self service and information systems, ATMs and gaming machines, as well as by military, computer, telecommunications and medical OEMs, and are available from its network of worldwide distributors. The company has its headquarters and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Blaydon, Tyne & Wear in the UK. In addition to ISO-approved manufacturing, these facilities are home to Zytronic's team of lamination, material science and electronics specialists who are responsible for ongoing product development in composite technology.
