Emerson Launches Rosemount Analytical 2100C Total Organic Carbon Analyzer

ORRVILLE, OH (February 7, 2003) - Emerson Process Management has added the Rosemount Analytical TOC 2100C Total Organic Carbon Analyzer with on-line process functionality to its family of next generation analyzers.

Measurements from the TOC 2100C are used to determine organic contamination in the process that can potentially indicate the loss of raw material, environmental hazards or damage to capital equipment. The 2100C is used in a wide variety of applications and industries, including the food and beverage industry, semiconductor industry, nuclear power plants, fossil fuel power plants and wastewater treatment plants.

Process Analysis Functionality

The TOC 2100C offers high reliability, low maintenance and real-time analysis of process streams. Continuously operating, ultra-violet-promoted persulfate oxidation is used to convert organic carbon to carbon dioxide. A highly accurate non-dispersive BINOS 100 infrared detector then measures the level of carbon dioxide produced. Output is calibrated to read parts-per-million carbon.

User Benefits Delivered by Upgrade Features

The TOC 2100C is an upgraded version of its earlier model, the 2100A. The lightweight, easy-to-install wall mount enclosure makes the 2100C an ideal product for new or existing applications.

The new model has two combined cabinets to reduce corrosion and costly down-time repairs. The lower cabinet, which contains the analytical portion of the measuring system, is made of corrosion-resistant polyester. The upper housing, containing the electronics, is made of electromagnetic-compatible steel. The use of the two combined cabinets protects the electronics from potentially corrosive sample leaks.

The TOC 2100C also includes the BINOS 100 infrared detector, which offers improved diagnostics, user programmable alarms, improved cabinet configurations and greatly improved serviceability. It also has a new screen where customers can view the reading directly from the equipment, rather than solely from a remote location.

Cost Savings

o The rapid, accurate and reliable measurement of total organic carbons affords the operator the opportunity to make modifications to prevent costly loss of product or regulatory fines.

o A low consumption rate of persulfate reduces cost of ownership and operation.

o Accurate readings prevent overuse of chemicals, resulting in a reduction of cost.

o Self-diagnostics with alarm display and alarm contacts identify the need for action and notifies the user. This reduces the time spent performing diagnostics and provides greater on-line performance.

o 2100C not only costs less than the 2100A, but it also uses fewer reagents than the previous model.

PlantWeb® Compatible

The TOC 2100C extends the process analysis functionality of Emerson's PlantWeb digital plant architecture. Self-diagnostics measure 2100C performance and produce predictive performance data similar to the health data generated across PlantWeb, enabling plant operators and maintenance personnel to maximize performance and reliability, and reduce shutdowns.
