Toshiba Expands Its TransferJet(TM) Offering with New Products That Simplify Implementation of the Close Proximity Wireless Transfer Technology

Industry's smallest SDIO IC module(1), and industry's first microSDIO card(2) and USB adaptor(3) drive adoption of TransferJet(TM) technology

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)*, a committed leader that collaborates with technology companies to create break through designs, today announced three new additions to its products supporting the TransferJet close proximity wireless data transfer technology. The company will make available the industry's smallest TransferJet-enabled SDIO IC module, and the industry's first TransferJet-enabled microSDIO card and TransferJet USB adaptor. These devices are designed to easily deploy and proliferate TransferJet technology for the high-speed transfer of large multimedia files between consumer electronics products through close proximity, or simply by touching two devices together.

"Toshiba applies its expertise in wireless technology to deliver a simple connection, high-speed wireless communication technology in its TransferJet products," said Andrew Burt, vice president of the Analog and Imaging Business Unit, System LSI Group at TAEC. "The company is stepping up to drive the adoption of the TransferJet technology by offering OEMs an easy and cost-effective way to implement this technology and capitalize on an emerging machine-to-machine wireless communications market."

Toshiba continues to leverage its advanced RF-CMOS LSI manufacturing technology and experience in high-frequency design and system integration to achieve the performance, compact size and integration benefits presented in its TransferJet products. The Toshiba TransferJet offering gives OEMs a quick path to implementation and builds up the eco-system infrastructure for this technology. End users will enjoy the extremely high-speed exchange of data and multimedia content on their TransferJet-enabled devices just by touching the devices together, without the inconvenience of going through a complex setup.

Industry's Smallest TransferJet-Enabled SDIO IC Module (Part #TJM35420XLG)

Toshiba has created the industry's smallest TransferJet-enabled SDIO IC module that simplifies implementation and design challenges associated with compact consumer electronics products. The Toshiba TransferJet-enabled SDIO IC module is delivered in the industry's smallest configuration, 4.8 x 4.8 x 1.0 mm for a significant reduction in solution footprint. Toshiba applies its high-frequency design technique and system integration experience to minimize mounting footprint for smartphone and other portable device applications. The TransferJet-enabled SDIO IC module integrates the Toshiba TransferJet transceiver IC, RF components, and a crystal oscillator. A software development kit is available.

Industry's First TransferJet-Enabled microSDIO Card (Part #TJM35420USG)

Toshiba has developed the industry's first TransferJet-enabled microSDIO card that can be inserted into a variety of compact, portable products like smartphones and tablets to enable the technology. The TransferJet-enabled microSDIO card integrates a TransferJet tranceiver IC, a TransferJet coupler, RF components, and a crystal oscillator that makes TransferJet implementation quick and easy. A software development kit is available.

Industry's First TransferJet USB Adaptor (Part #TJM35420UXG)

The Toshiba TransferJet USB adaptor implements TransferJet communications easily, conveniently, and efficiently in larger consumer electronic products like notebooks, PCs and other digital gadgets. The TransferJet USB adaptor integrates a TransferJet transceiver IC, a TransferJet coupler, RF components, and a crystal oscillator making for simple implementation.

Availability

The Toshiba TransferJet-enabled SDIO IC module begins sampling in the fourth quarter of 2012, with mass production beginning in the first quarter of 2013. The microSDIO card and the USB adaptor will be available in the first quarter of 2013. For more information please visit: www.toshiba.com/taec/support/techquestions/index.jsp

About TransferJet Technology

The TransferJet technology enables close proximity wireless data transfer and is a standard promoted by the TransferJet Consortium whose membership consists of 45 companies (as of October 1, 2012), including Toshiba. TransferJet technology provides the simplest connection and ultra high-speed data transfer with low power consumption simply by selecting on the screen of a mobile device the data file to be transferred and "touching" the receiving device with the mobile device. Applications of TransferJet technology could expand to future digital signage application for large digital content download when combined with Near Field Communications (NFC) technology.
